I am coming from an NX70V

After an exhausting 3-4 hours of trying to transfer programs and apps, most of which was hard resets cause some program caused an infinite loop of resets, I'd like to try and get this communitoes help on sorting some thing out.

1) Great battery life considering it has wifi and bluetooth, at least coming an NX. Is it worth underclocking to get even more out of it. I know it helps my NX70 immensely at the moment, but I still only get about 1 hour out of it with its 5 year old battery.

2) Im looking for equivalents for: CaseToggle and LaunchThis, both caused inifinite resets on the TX.

3) I found sharkBtn to replace that stupid find on the little menu bar, whose bright idea at palm was that?

4) I can't seem to get it Hotsync over the Wifi local netowrk, I can do this with my NX70, although I don't remember how apparently. All I can do it bluetooth, and I can't seem to find out how to do it when making a new connection.

5) I hate grafitti 2, perhaps Im just a old stickler, but the extra strokes needed annoy me, I suppose I could get used to it. I don't suppose that there is some to go back to grafitti 1? (Note I didn't actually search these forums for this one, so it might be covered, I just thought of it as I was writing so included it)

I miss having the onboard keyboard though, probably just have to suck that up though. Keyquick was amazingly useful, if slightly hard to understand.

Thanks.

1=I don't underclock
2=I don't know
3=I don't know
4=Try putting in your IP address. For me wifi hotsync sometimes works sometimes doesn't.
5=Get yourself Alex Pruss's myKbd and forget that graffiti ever existed.

Or try TealScript - I use that to get me back to Graffiti 1 (plus a few customisations that make it even better for me).

I made some measurements of the current draw from the battery under various conditions and underclocking does reduce power consumption but not very much for apps where there is no real computing going on, such as readers etc. For me it is not worth the added sluggishness of all other actions such as scrolling. Reducing screen brightness is the most significant thing you can do towards energy savings, as well as keeping WiFi turned OFF when not in use and keep it in Conserve Power mode when in use. Bluetooth and Infrared recieve use virtually no power when just turned ON but not actively transferring data so I leave bluetooth on always as a convenience. I leave IR recieve OFF since I never use it for anything.

Hi Guys!
I recommend WarpSpeed for overclocking (palmpowerups.com)
It allows you to set te speed by whcih app is running! (Speed up for emulation (which, btw, is great on T|X full screen) and sloooooooooooooooooowwwwed up a bit for readers/memos)
Works great!

The first link Google gave me for CaseToggle was at PalmGear for CaseToggle for OS5. Here is the link (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=46385). It's freeware and I presume doesn't crash OS5 devices.

I see that LaunchThis is supposed to prevent the launcher from activating when a card is inserted. If that's the function you crave, I suggest either NoMountSwitch or InsertSD, both of which work fine on the TX. Although I've made no attempt to compare on a case by case basis, from the description I found of LaunchThis, I think InsertSD has all the same functions. It is the application I use.

I also don't under (or over) clock.

You can find ways to put Graffiti 1 on your TX, but it will cause Blazer to crash when you enter long URLs. There may be other cases that cause crashes for similar reasons. I came to terms with G2 at first, but have also now joined the ranks of myKbd users.

Also Event Launcehr works great at this (programmer bygrace.com)

and, myKb, ftw!

Unless Event Launcher has been updated and I missed it, the feature designed to prevent actions when the SD card is inserted doesn't work.

Thanks for all the help guys.

All your suggestions are duly noted, and so far working pretty well. (although underclocking battery performance will take some time).

Except for CaseToggle, yea it was for OS5, I had it on my NX, same version, caused resets everytime I tried to beam it or hotsync it on, wouldn't finish the hotsync it would reset as soon as the app was loaded, seemed to have some issue with the NVFS maybe.

Speaking of whichhich, I had an icon database I tried putting it on (both hotsyncing, beaming and through MS->PC->SD card) and have since got working, but on my NX it took up 312kB, on the TX it took up 572kB, is this normal, I didn't check through all the apps and databases, but most were within the same number. Plus it wouldn't load properly, kept saying it was corrupted, I ended up hacking the icon database into 5 seperate chunks, putting those over individually, then using IconManager to put them back together, and it ended up as 320ish kB when I was done that.

All in all, got most of the little tweaks out of the way, it seems like a pretty nice machine.

Thanks again.

I'm using 1.16 and it works... Go figure.

Works fine.

I didn't try to hotsync it, though. I installed it via a card reader and with MyInstall. If you haven't found that application, it's worth having. And if you aren't interested right now, you could copy it to your card and from there to RAM with FileZ.

Edit: Actually, yes, that IS the version I have. When I insert a card, no matter how it's set, it displays the contents of the card. How do you set it up?
