Can anyone furnish me a link to a how-to site on replacing a TX battery. It is important that I have one with pictures.
I do not actually need to replace the battery; I simply need to know exactly where inside the case the battery is located and what it looks like.

The light colored, basically rectangular item on the lower part of the left case half (TX's back case half) on this picture is the battery.

That's what I thought. See this thread:

Of course, opening that unit has voided your warranty.
Also, you were instructed to remove screen protectors before returning the unit.
However, refurbished units are supposed to have new screen surfaces. I suspect someone mixed up your work order with another in-process work order.
That being said, Palm contracts out a lot of this stuff. It could be that the company doing the work in your area is not reputable. In my area, they've always been responsive and responsible. I've had 3 T|Xes via the refurb service, and all of them have been as good as new.

Palm had already voided the warranty when they claimed water damage so opening the unit to see what was obviously missing was moot as far as the warranty was concerned.
I'm in process of moving up the chain of command with Palm about this. I contend the unit they claimed was water damaged was not the same unit I sent them. If I get no luck there, it'll be the BBB and the Attorney General--and anyone else who might listen.
It may come to nothing; but, I'm not giving up easily.
And what reason, other than cocealment or something else sinsiter, could anyone have for removing the serial number and MAC address? Something about this just plain stinks.
If I'm not mistaken, the only repair center in the US for TX is in Pharr, Texas.

Do you know the serial number of the device you sent back? If you do, go to the launcher screen tap menu/info and tap version on the bottom left corner of the screen. At the top of the screen it will show the serial number.

Did you make a note of your previous MAC? Does it match the current one?
Oh and see these instructions about opening the unit: ( http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=GHT&Category_Code=_TungEBat ). Although its for a T|E, the case is just about the same.

You guys are missing it or not reading it.
The unit they sent back DOES NOT WORK.
Yes, I do know the old MAC address of the old one; but, if the unit does not work, there is no way to compare.
Yes, I have the serial number of the old one; but, if the serial number has been removed from the back of the unit that they claim is the same unit and the unit does not work, that cannot be compared.

Does it look like it's just the battery that's missing, or does the device look beat up? If you bought a battery popped it in and see what the s/n is, and compared it to the old one you could find out for certain. But if it's beat up and you think there's a lot wrong with it, it might not be worth it. It would certainly be interesting to find out, and if your going to get another palm you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

If I don't get another device from Palm, I'll probably buy a replacement; but, I'm not going to open the new one to use test parts.

You misunderstood me. I said buy a new battery from a parts store. If you buy a new device at worst you'll have an extra battery. Battery's aren't that expensive you can probable get one for under $25, it will be a lot less than a new pda.

Well, I got it figured that whoever tampered with that Palm certainly didn't send me a working unit so I don't care to waste $25 plus shipping and the time it would take to try it out. I am satisfied it would be a waste of time.
I'm going to hang my hopes on negotiating a working unit out of Palm. If that doesn't work, I'll work up the chain to the BBB and the Attorney General's office. After that, I'll probably just abandon the effort.
Besides, batteries do have a shelf life. They will go bad just sitting on a shelf.
