Some of you probably know me from TH55 forum, doing TH55 repairs and parts sale. Finally I get my feet wet with UX50 too. We'll see how it goes. If any of you need some parts, PM me first and I'll see if I get them.

Woah when did you get all those????
Do you have a speaker you can send me? That would be great!
I need the speaker including the part that goes at the ends of the wires (that attach onto the motherboard, it is clear with two gold plugs)

DanT
05-29-2007, 03:49 AM
I got them about a month ago for a bunch of $$. Just now I get around to check them out and see if I can recoup some.

Is this what you're talking about? The speaker is glued on to the back plate and the negative is soldered on to the plate. I would sell it with the plate and let you disassemble it at your own risk. I would not be responsible of ruining the speaker. The plate is cracked so it is worthless (well, you may be able to crazy glue it), but the speaker is in good condition. As you can see, the gold connector is still intact. I'll sell it to you cheap, just send me a PM if you're still interested.

Hello,

I'd quite like a replacement for the keyboard PCB of my UX-50, which became quite flakey in the last year. Any of these "spare parts" has, for example, a totally destroyed screen?

I have 3-4 UX50s in such state (no screen). Please send me a PM and show me the exact parts you want.

Say, let me know if you have a dead one. I would like to buy the case/shell from you. Or do I need to send it to you?

DanT
05-31-2007, 09:32 PM
I have about 6 dead UX50s and 2UX40s with good shells.

Please send me a PM or email your inquiry, simply by clicking on my username, on the top left of my posts (DanT), right above my puppy avatar, to pull down an action list and select "Send a private message to DanT" or "Send email to DanT". Provide me with your email address so I can send you pictures of a good UX50 shell for you to see if it is what you want.

My 1src gallery is currently full, I can't load more pictures, unless I delete the others first. Otherwise, I would post them here.

BTW, I can also swap the shell for you. You can simply send your UX50 to me. The only different in price is the shipping cost both ways. I won't charge my labor for swapping shell.

Wow, DanT! I seriously never would have thought I'd see that many UX50s in one place before. Out of curiosity, do you have any respectable UX50/UX40 batteries? My battery life is pretty abysmal right now, but I'd imagine that it'd be difficult to find a relatively pristine battery these days, considering the newest UX-series batteries would probably be at least 3-years old, which is already past the shelf-life of typical lithium-ion batteries, isn't it?

DanT
06-03-2007, 07:01 AM
I have several new UX50/40 batteries. However they are not Sony. If you need one, I can sell it to you including the star screwdriver or I can replace your battery. Just send me a PM or an email.

Yes, Li-Ion battery shelf life is about 2 years, unless you store it properly (in a cool & dry place at 40-70% charge).

Sorry, you're a little late. Tomcatt0 is already reserved it.

Hello DanT....

My speaker..(actually my speaker wire broke at the connetor that attaches to the circuit board. Also... a couple of my keys (BS, E and the numbers 1,2,3 & 0) are sticking.. or I have to press on them very hard for them to respond!

How much do you charge to repair these problems?

Thank You,

Hey,

Literally 15 minutes ago, the girl that lives across from me just walks in my room, picks up my ux50, and half throws it on the ground.

Sure it was an accident... but now it's busted.

I believe it is the back light, there is a large crack running down the center of the screen.

http://www.hexellent.com/files/57/DSC00078.JPG
(Sry, but my only camera is my ux, but you can see the area where the lighting is gone)

And now the hinge is also really loose.

What do i need?

Had the same issue and found out that the digitizer is glued on the LCD module. So if you want to repair it you need both. With other sony clie's module it isn't glued on the LCD module, strangely with the ux it is.

DanT,
The roller is not broken and rolls ok. The problem is that the roller does not sense it when being rolled. The button does sense it when pushed but the rolling part does not sense. I tried cleaning the connectors but still does not work. Please advice.

DanT,
Is this something I can try to fix. How much for the part if you have it? Or how much for your service.
Thanks

DanT
09-23-2007, 06:45 AM
Do you see the roller assembly on the bottom-left corner of the picture, below? The roller assembly includes a 4-pin ribbon tape that connects to the keyboard at a square white box, right above the top-right corner of the roller. All you need to do is to remove the 2 screws from the side of the roller and pull the 4-pin ribbon cable off the connector.

I can sell the parts for DIY or replace your broken one with a good one for you. The labor is free. The difference DIY and my service are shipping cost, time, and warranty. Shipping cost would be more expensive for returning your UX rather than just mailing the roller assembly. The time is a bit longer for you and I to mail your UX back and forth. I don't mean to be condescanding, I've learnt the hard way of seeing too many UX and TH motherboards got zapped by DIY's job, so I do not give warranty for parts sold for DIY job. However, I do give a 3-month warranty for my labor and parts that I install it myself.

If you want the parts or my repair service, please email or PM me.

Cheers,
Dan

Hey Dan... I wanted to thank you for taking care of my UX. For anyone considering having Dan fix yours I recommend him without a doubt.

I mailed off my UX to Dan (who by the way didn't charge me for fixing it) and had it back within a week. Cost he charged for the screen was MORE than reasonable.

Thanks again Dan!

Hi,
My name is Albert, and I have got a ux50 where the screen no longer turns on if I have it flipped one way, but works fine when the screen is flipped the other way.
Would you know where or who might be able to help me out?

My flip screen is no longer straight it tips to the side a little bit. Does this mean something internally is bent. If so, is this repairable?

DanT
10-25-2007, 06:52 PM
You mean the whole frame tilted, not the screen inside the frame?

Yes, the whole frame.

You could unscrew 4 screws around the frame, remove the frame & straighten the hinge plate with plyers.

The right bottom corner, where I write the graffiti, seems all scratched and "used" and the text recognition is very very poor now. It's getting very irritating to write. Do I have to exchange the whole screen, or is there any easier solution? (Other than to switch to having the writing area on the left... i tried, it didn't work that well for other reasons).
Thanks for you advice,

Suzanna

Unlike non keyboard Clies (e.g., TH, TJ, SJ, etc.), the UX LCD & digitizer are glued tightly together. I would damage the expensive LCD in trying to repair the digitizer. The best way is to use your keyboard as much as you can. If you do want to replace the LCD assembly any way, just send me a PM & I'll do it.

Sorry, I just sold my last one. It is just a cap that is glued on the hinge. I usually look in ebay for broken UX & disassemble it & sell the parts to 1src members. Apparently these caps easily fall off. Now I have about 10 broken UX50s with no caps.
