I saw that you are reading Anne McCaffrey's Master Harper of Pern. Is that a part of a series? And if so, is it the first one to read? Do you like it? I haven't read any of her books, but I see the name quite a bit. Just wanted to know if you are enjoying it.

Hmm... I read a lot of Anne McCaffrey's books from that setting awhile back. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the first book in the main plot... I had it in a 3-book volume called "The Dragonriders of Pern". There's a whole mess of books from that one plotline, and some others that take place several hundred years before that. The book that got me started was one of those ones from the earlier timeline called "Dragonseye". I kind of liked that one better than the rest. Hope I was helpful!

Great books. I read them when I first got to college (80's). I don't remember the order but there seems to have been several. At the same time I also read "Clan of the Cave Bear", another good book (Jean Auall?).

So, 'Dragonseye' is the one to begin with? And 'The Dragonriders of Pern' is a 3 part volume containing 'Master Harper of Pern'? Or am I completely off the mark?

I also read 'Clan of the Cave Bear' ages ago. Enjoyed it.

Not quite... I haven't read "Master Harper of Pern", but I would guess it's in the series that started with "The Dragonriders of Pern", which is a 3-book volume of what I think are the first 3 books Anne McCaffrey wrote about Pern. "Dragonseye" is just the one that sucked me in. It was reccomended to me by one of my friends. I'll go lookup the names of the 3 books in "Dragonriders of Pern" to clarify this a bit.

Got it: "The Dragonriders of Pern" includes (in order) "Dragonflight", "Dragonquest", and "The White Dragon". Those are the first three in the series.

Whoa jeez... I just clicked that link for the "How to Read Pern". I thought I'd read nearly all of them, but there must be at least as many more! :-P

I read them all in order according to the link above, but I think MasterHarper of Pern is one of my favorites. I re-read it between other stuff (or until I decide what else to read). They are EXCELLENT books, and I highly recommend them! (Looks like I'm not the only one, either. . .)

I also like Mercedes Lackey's Heralds of Valdemar series . . . there aren't as many of them, but they are outstanding!

I will add to my reading list. But, if I like McCaffrey's series, it may be awhile from the looks of things:)
