Hello,
Most of you know the list of ongoing projects in the palm area I have. Currently I have very very very little time to spend on them, but I do intend to finish them all, but not in parallel. Therefore I ask for you to {vote/request/demand/decide in any other way} on what project I should finish first.
Furthermore any developers interested in making UIs and such please contact me. Perhaps I can create a library that does the hard part of the app, and someone may write the UI.

Hey Dmitry, I don't know if your still trying to port Blazer 4.5 to the TX, but I think that would be great...

I would like to see the memory management app you were working on. There was also something at one point which looked like a bigger screen (better resolution?) or was that the same app?
BrentDC

I think the higher resolution thing was just to trick Netfront (maybe Blazer) into thinking the resolution was better. I would put that lower on priority list. I know Dmitry was working on a huge memory management app that would try to increase heap/dbcache/and edit ROM. That one sounds like a lot of work, but if it could be completed that would definitely be great.

Don't know if it is doable. But as I have both a Treo & a Palm PDA, it would be interesting if I could keep data synchronised between the 2 devices, without having to connect to a PC.
John
I think getting more DB Cache out of current devices would be the most worthwhile. If done right I'll give you $20 :D

Maybe someone should setup a poll? This is going to get messy...
I'm for the memory management app :)

I might be mistaken but I thought I heard somewhere the UI of UnCache is open-source, so conceivable anybody could change it.

Don't know what happened w/project to customize ROM; I'm talking about something that will do it for the user- saw some stories relating to those who made mistakes & almost bricked their palms.
If you aren't going to put it all together into an app w/a UI, then my vote goes to the app to increase dbcache.

Something that allows big memory cards on oldish devices such as the T5. Not necessarily SDHC, but regular 4GB SD card usage would be great :-)

I'd like to see the DBcache app & I'll also agree a port for Blazer 4.5 would be nice.

We Palm owners need something to run WM apps. Call it Patelyts.

A lot of people are going to want support for SDHC cards because it's a tangible. Most people understand the difference between 4GB and 8GB+ cards, but not to many people will understand the consequence's of increasing DBCache/Dynamic Heap.

How about those two then being the best for Dmitry to work on? They both are instrumental in giving the TX and other Palm devices longer legs.

I think Dmitry should work on these projects in this order Blazer port/Memory app/SDHC.

I believe the memory app would help Blazer run better. Some have said it is more the added DB Cache in recent Treos that lets Blazer 4.5 be more efficient. Dmitry, can you comment on this?

I'd have to go with the statusbar customizer over (although barely) increasing the dbcache. That being said, I'd love (and pay for) both!

This order would be great for me :
1/SDHC
2/MEMORY APP (witch inrease db cache if it's possible) ;)
3/BLAZER 4.5
4/STATUS BAR CUSTOMIZATION

I think it isn't possible because palm os not support multitasking...
Sorry for my english; i am french...

I was looking forward to that memory manager app. that increases DBcache as well: preferably increasing the chunk size and keeping it that way throughout the day :D

You might have misunderstood the app, PalmSole. By increase i mean add 64-128 M to it :-)

See, now THAT would definitely extend the usefulness of the TX :)

The only two projects that would make me buy a TX (in addition to my Treo 680) would be SDHC support and a compatibility layer for the Treos version of Blazer.

A memory app would be nice to have, but weŽre all already working with our TXŽes, arenŽt we? To be able to put a 8GB card or even more in it (32GB?), would be fantastic, esp. since it really doesnŽt look like palm itself would help out on this one. All you can do is buy a treo 680+, and as far as I am concernd I hate smartphones.
Mem will do with some flushing. But as soon as 32GB are out youŽll get 8-16GB for nuttin and be able to carry your whole PC with you :)
My whole PC has 1 TB+ :D I think the mem app would be most important because it would increase stability, speed of openeing apps and likely help Blazer as wekk. A close second is the mem card, but that already has an easy workaround by using multiple 4gb cards (which I don't need to swap out unless I'm going to play a movie or something anyway).

How you can do that? 64 mo when udmh just can add 16 mo? Where you will find this memory? in the sd card?
I am surely totaly wrong but i want to understand...

Well this is better than I even imagined..."if you build it they will come" and buy that memory enlarging program...sign me up :D
So, the current lineup (in order of popularity) appears to be:
Memory Expander
Blazer 4.5 -- Why not use NetFront or Picsel Browser?
*UnCache UI Upgrade -- Someone else want to do this? I'd LOVE startup sets. Integration with Alex's FixBoot would also be a plus.
SDHC Driver
StatBar Customizer -- I'm happy with the ones done by Alex and Henk.
ROM Editor -- the current one is kind of useless, as it only lets you edit the portion that gets copied into NVRAM on a hard reset. I'd want a FULL ROM editor (Jack*) if this project were going to be tackled.
Blazer/NetFront 640x640 hack -- neat, but then, we already have Picsel. Might be neat if Picsel-style pan and zoom could be implemented system-wide....
Blue Pill Upgrade
Palm-Palm Synch
WM Emulator -- WM is a hog on hardware designed for it... it's not going to be pretty running in a VM on PalmOS 5. HOWEVER, Palm hardware DOES multitask, and does have threads. The system just isn't very accessible (The OS multitasks, but programs don't automatically inherit multitasking, it has to be intentionally coded).

Hey _Em, I think you summed it up well, but I can answer a couple questions. The reason I like Blazer better than Netfront and Picsel is because with a page slightly to big NF errors, and the font is a little small. Picsel I don't like because I never got used to the zooming thing (although I prefer it to PalmPDF for PDF files). If you read a little earlier in the thread I pointed out and Dmitry confirmed the user interface of UnCache is open source, so try to convince one of your developer friends to do it for you (if your not a developer yourself). I think the status bar thing would cool also, along with the SDHC support. But I guess we still can't settle on one app.

I found the answer! The Foleo.
But I wanted to sync with something pocketable like a TX or Lifedrive, not a laptop. I already have a laptop. I certainly don't want one that will run only MS Office, email or web browser.

The additional dbcache, pleeeeeeze!. If that problem was fixed, the version of Blazer on the TX would work fine, I assume, and I wouldn't get freezing and resets when I use Web Pro. And to my mind, those are the two browsers that render web pages best.

But first: a long promised update: http://www.palmpowerups.com/priv/Warp_18.prc
warpspeed 1.8 now supports treos better (at least works for me) and zire 22
if current ver works for you, no need to upgrade. there are no no features for existing devices

I know I'm a little late to this party, but what I really want is a read-write FAT32 driver for the T3. Seems I'm a lone voice though :o
dmitrygr
06-04-2007, 09:42 AM
FAT32 is a different story. Alex Pruss has written a FAT32 library, so once it is finished I can wrap it into a slot driver framework and it will be a FAT32 driver for any and all devices
