View Full Version : Hotspot Registration with Blazer

It's really getting to be annoying... I can't seem to register at hotspots through blazer on my TX. I have seen a few vague references to a Blazer update that corrects this but can't seem to find it anywhere. Any pointers?
I've also hear of third party driver updates for such things as BT and SD, where are those?

This is a known bug that I submitted to Palm in 2005. They had someone from dev management call me back and talk about it with me, including discussing potential solutions. They have since fixed the bug in releases of Blazer for the 680 and later, but never bothered to release an update for the TX.
Your best bet is to grab a copy of NetFront or Picsel Viewer.

How did you get a copy of Picsel Viewer fot the TX?

I did try NetFront, but didn't really like it for a variety of reasons, most annoyingly how the display behaves. In fact, IIRC I tried it out of desperation at one hotspot and it couldn't register either :-(
I guess I'm stuck using GPRS/EDGE via BT or hauling out the laptop.

have you tried universe (still in beta)? It is an excellent tabbed browser for the PalmOS platform. Not everything is implemented yet (see description and download at wapuniverse.com).

The deal with web browsers is Universe is to slow (but I hear the core is being rewritten), Nefronts font is way to small and any page just a little big won't display right, Opera Mini is also slow (and requires IBM JVM), AvantGo's built in browser is just too slow and doesn't format pages very well, Picsel Browser is not very good for browsing (never got the hang of zooming) but is a very good PDF reader, Blazer is probable the best (even though I hate to admit it) but also has its problems.

Briefly tried universe, but until it has SSL is a no-go for me. Besides, some hotspots that I want to use redirect to SSL :-(
It definitely has promise and I'll be watching out for it!

SSL is planned for it. I know I have to use blazer to download sometimes - for instance from 1src, because it requires a login and Universe does not allow me to login.
