Yayy! I'm about to download this right now. Yea..I know I should be asleep, I'm just so wired I can't rest. Still trying to unwind from a crazy day/week/month. I may not listen right now though, don't want to drink DC at this hour...and I can't skip the ritual.
Thanks Alan, I'm sure I'll enjoy this one as well. :)

Nice Podcast as always ^_^/. If they do that multiple price point Treo's they really need to update the phone interface, even these low cost phones now a days has better phone interface than Palm right now. My goodness even most have animated icons! You couldn't pay me enough to use a low cost Treo running garnet. I hope that at least the mercedes level of Treos will have the graphical and animation UI like the iPhone.

Why do you think Palm purchased iVentor and hired Paul Mercer? :)

You wouldn't be in the target market for a very low cost device from Palm.

Seeing a cell radio in a TX sure would be nice (hell, its got just about everything else :) )
Oh yeah, and a GPS receiver (wishful thinking)

The TX is a really slim device. If they put a cell radio into it, and a larger battery to support the new radio, I suspect the device will get slightly larger, but it would still be a nice form factor. Again, for me, I like the current Treo design but I'll leave my mind open to other options.

I just started listening to these wonderful podcasts. I love em. And since I've found the free Resco Neeews! I'm all 1src! I keep forgetting to check out the chat you mention :o
Another fan! (Don't we have a saying for those who get hooked on the podcast? Like Sean Hannity's Hannitized? :D)

Hello I love my mom.
Glad to hear that you found and enjoy the 1SRC podcast. Sorry, we don't have a catch phrase for the podcast. The closest thing we have currently is the opening of the can of Diet Coke.

Can we substitute regular coke? I can't stand that splenda aftertaste :) Or is that against the policy?

Regular Coke is fine. Actually, any Coke cola is probably good.

No worries. My wife works overnights on the weekends also. Why else do you think I get to host the chat on a Saturday night?! I usually drift out for about 10 minutes around 10pm.

Okay, I've caught up on my listening.
Minor point:
Battery capacities are normally measured in mAh, that is milliampere-hour, not milliampere (mA) or milliampere per hour (mA/h). Yes, I know ... we all know what you are saying. The most common compound unit involving hours that most people are use to is miles per hour in the U.S. or kilometers per hour internationally and thus "per hour" just rolls off the tongue.
Sorry, it's the engineer in me. (Technically speaking (well to an engineer following the SI system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SI)) batteries really should be measured in As (ampere-seconds), which is a coulomb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coulomb), the unit of charge. Bla, Bla, Bla, Bla, Bla, Drone, Drone, Drone, Drone, Drone, ... [ref (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126591&page=2&pp=15#post991397)].

I'll try to keep that in mind the next time battery capacities come up in the show, but don't hold me to it.
So, the BoxWave extended battery that I'm working with now, would be described as 2400 milliampere-hours?

Alan, I enjoyed your piece on the "hawk" predictions over on brighthand. Should we start a poll to see which one of you guys was right (may 29th is awful close and then hopefully we'll know a whole lot more)

I'll be expanding on that topic in this week's 1SRC editorial...as soon as I can find a hour to sit down, pull my thoughts together, and write it. It should be up tonight or tomorrow.
Just remember, Jeff Hawkins is suppose to give us some really broad hints at what the Hawk will be.

Cool! It was a very interesting read, looking at how different people envision a revolutionary mobile device :) (your vision was kinda inline with the editorial about LBS a little while back). Personally, I dont know what to expect :)

Since the beginning of the year I have been trying to show how these little things all roll up into a big product. Think about it. It goes back about 2 - 2.5 years ago, right around the time Palm bought their name back. Then they started settling the outstanding lawsuits (anyone recall Palm Graffiti vs. Xerox Unistroke). Toying with Linux. Acquiring ChatterMail and iVentor. Hiring cell radio engineers. Building new research centers and lining up new ODM partners. Palm is working very hard to build up a strong portfolio to develop category defining products and solutions. The Hawk is just one of those new products and Palm OS II and LBS are going to be part of it.
Oh man, now I'm all fired up and on a roll!

Hey Alan,
How about a quick review of that new Mac book of yours on the next podcast? I know it's a Palm podcast, but I'd be curious to hear how well that laptop works for you and how well your Treo and other devices works with it.

A quick review of Apple hardware, eh? That is typically Tyler Faux's domain on the PalmAddict podcast. However I can spend a few minutes talking about the new Mac Book on the show. As far as how well Palm OS devices work with it, well, I'm not a big fan of the Mac Version of Palm Desktop. It has some strange quarks. When it works, it works well, when things break, there is usually a trip to the Mac OS X Unix terminal to get things working again.
