I love my NZ but I'm running out of memory. to much pre bundled software on board. Dose anyone know what I can safely delete of the pre installed software. For example I have no need for clie album, flash player or photostand but can't find them listed in clie files.

i believe they are in flash... their databases might be in ram..
have you looked in ram to see what is REALLY using up the ram? sort by size... put netfront into flash, buy jackflash...

Jackflash is too risky... you can destroy your ROM for doing that.

Greg, I'm not sure I know what "netfront" is?? It's not listed anyway. I have 7743K used and 2994K free. Don't have all that much in the way of big files. Datebook5, contacts4, world mate and docs to go would be the biggest. I have pics and dictionaries on MS.

Hey Yobbo,
Netfront is the CLIE Web browser... It is huge (for Palm sftware) being close to 2Mb in size (BAD BAD Programmers) anyway if you arn't using it, then delete it... If you want to browse the web there are much smaller browsers out there...
And as for JackFlash... I have been using it for awhile and I have no issues with it, I havn't heard of anyone; that has any common sense; that had their ROM screwed up....
JackFlash is easy to use, it only affects the data files you put in there. problem comes if you start using JackSprat but that does not work for the NZ yet, so that solves that problem. (smile) JackFlash gains about 3.5 meg on a US version NZ90

Bo_,
I don't mind take the risk to try jacksprat on NZ if it is exist in future as I really hate to see some useless default applications.
Do you feel the same?

Bo_,
just FYI,
Sorry for late reply/respond due to the fact that I had to prepare for my examinations this 2 weeks. This weekend, I will be back again.
Personally I would not mess with anything Sony have already placed in FLASH, I would ONLY use Jack Sprat to lock in, things like the web-browser and the e-mail... no other changes.

I am confused by Bo_ .... JackSprat is to remove things from flash, so I cannot understand the comment "I would ONLY use Jack Sprat to lock in"....
JackFlash will copy things to flash, my understanding of "lock in"...
It would be nice if JackSprat (if it ever becomes available for the NZ) could be used to "tear out" old drivers/software, like the lan driver or cliefiles, or unused things, but I believe this will not happen... most driver updates are small...
Greg
Greg,
I might have been misunderstanding things. (smile) that happens quite frequently to me.
When I was reading about Jack Flash and Jack Sprat, I understood it so that JackFlash will place things INTO the area of the FLASH ram, however these files will dissapear in a fatal crash which also wipe out other information on the Clie, Using JackSprat I understood that (if it was available for the NZ) one could somehow rearrange the FLASH so that the items placed there by JackFlash would still be awailable after a serious crash, somehow they are now part of the protected memory, which will not be wiped clean in a complete reset.

eh... all the while, I been using Jackflash and Jacksprat except for OS 5 devices.
Jackflash enable you put stuffs inside the spare rom, even hard reset or battery flat completely, you still manage to find your stuffs inside the spare rom provide you have jacksafe install as well.
For Jacksprat's function is enable you to remove any default applications that you don't like, nothing else.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Ahh Guess I am wrong on this one... so I need to play with JackSafe to secure my web-browser. he he.. OK I can do that..

No, use Jack Enable to restore your flash after a hard reset.

Sorry that I had given you the wrong info between Jacksafe and Jack Enable. As I had never use Jackenable before since someone reported that it can't work with OS 5.
Not even in OS 4.0-4.1 as I never give a chance for my clie to have a completely battery flat.

Thanks CYber for the information on Netfront. I don't use it and would love to delete it but it's not listed in clie files so I guess it's not installed. Guess I'll have to move some programs to MS to get back some ram space. Haven't had much luck getting them to run from MS but I'm prob just putting them in the wrong folder. No biggy I'll work it out.
Hehehe...someone with access should put "Clie" in the spell-check dictionary.
