View Full Version : WiFi 110
Received the new PEGA-WL110 the other day. Not sure what the difference is between it and the older 100 but assume updated software at a minimum.
However, on install of driver, install forced a soft reset followed by a fatal error. Had to to hard reset to get it back at all and could not use normal restore from Backup Buddy as it results in fatal error as well. So am manually restoring individual programs.
A real pain. It could be something specific to my machine but I would advise anyone to make sure they have a backup before attempting to install the 110 drivers.
Anyone else install it yet? Any problems?

I think it has an extra 'link led' or something along those lines.... otherwise it is no different to the 100 card

Where did you order it from? I havent seen the 110 yet. Did it cost as much as the 100?
It also has a shorter range than the 100. Compare the specs. It was said Sony was overstating on the 100 anyway. The 110 specs are more realistic.

Read somewhere that the 110 is being manufactured by Sony as opposed to the 100 which was a re-badged Intel card.... does the back of your 110 card support this information (the 100 says Intel)?
Cheers, Rich
The back does indeed say Sony so that is probably the case. I got it as a result of ordering the 100 through CDW. It was backordered for several weeks and they finally called and gave me the option to get the 100 at reduced price ($50 coupon) or the new one at original price. I opted for the new one and thus got the 110.
Am going to try and reinstall tonight with just the hard reset apps. If it still faults then I'm not going to be very happy.
Stay tuned...

It was assumed by one reviewer that was case, it wasn't based on fact.

Well the 110 Range is listed as: 60m(indoor), 150m(outdoor) and the 100 range is listed as: Max Range Indoors: 90 m and Max Range Outdoors: 300 m
So you are saying that the 100 really does have a farther range? How can that be if they are both the same?

I don't know if they are the same. Sony is making it's own and I have no idea what chipset is even being used on the WL110. The WL100 has the intel chipset, same as the it's Prowireless. The WL100 has adequate range in my usage. I have Belkin PC cards and Linksys PC cards, the Belkins beat the Linksys by a mile when it comes to range on the laptops. The WL100 is a good solid card, it's the primative drivers that Sony uses.
Just as a bit of closure. After finally getting some time to reinstall my apps, I was able to install 110 drivers and the unit seems to work just fine. On Home network have so far been able to work from one end of house to other (approx 35 feet) with no problem. Will be setting up at office tomorrow with a lot more metal and interference. But so far it all seems to work ok.
