Can you load/use the Driver Upgrades (e.g., MS Pro, ClieFiles, Camera, etc) to Flash (via JackFlash)?

Thanks!

interesting question... since the driver exists in flash and in ram, and the unit picks the ram version, it would be interesting to see what happens...

if the system boots and then loads any drivers in ram, then it probably won't work... if the system looks at the version numbers of the drivers, then maybe it will...

maybe some enterprising soul will try it (not me!)...

I tried doing that with the gsm phone drivers. It caused my nz to reset. So I put it back in ram.

that's what I thought... since not all drivers have versions (they should), the system boots, and then loads drivers in ram... that's why you have a reset mode to not automatically load drivers...

if it finds a driver with the same name, it just overwrites it (in running memory) although I think it just changes an internal pointer to the updated driver...

a good safety device, otherwise you could move a driver to flash and lock up your system with no recourse, even a hard reset would still use the "new" driver...

I agree with you, Greg. Good point! I tested it just out of curiousity knowing that there will be similar names for the 2 different versions.

Now, if jacksprat could delete the driver in flash, and move the one from ram... hmmm.... could be dangerous!

(but it could work if jacksprat gets updated for os5)

Greg,

Brayder said that they will release a Jacksprat that's compatible with OS 5 but Sony clie user will not be able to use it. Something to do with Sony proprietary code that they can't access.

I just placed several of the mentioned updates in Flash RAm. No go... It reverted to the older versions and made Jackflash a little buggy. No probs getting em out though!

well, I think the theory is proved!

Thanks for experimenting guys!

the news about jacksprat is bad news... oh well, there wasn't probably much to be gained there...
