I just got a Treo 650 off ebay and I'm trying to figure out how to copy and paste selections of text between apps. Also anyone recommend a good guide to getting to know the treo?
I'm not sure if I understand your problem... the menu bar can still be accessed by tapping the blue application name. Or you can press the button on top of the messages button. From there, just highlight text, copy, switch apps, menu, paste.

Yeah normally that would work, but I'm using SplashID and copying the reg codes for my different programs. However when I try to enter the numbers, The registration screens don't let me paste like I've been able to do on every other palm with the grafitti area real or virtual.

There are some screens where there is no menu so you can't access that Function ( I could have used it for TreoWeather, one heck of a long unlock code >.< )
Ok, now I understand. Yes, there are programs that prevent you from copying and pasting. Sorry about that.

Thanks,
I had hoped that maybe there was a secret trick or a DA that might get the job done. Oh well, I guess there are some trade-offs with a keyboard instead of a grafitti area.
On a more general note, Anyone know of any guides that would help me get to know the treo and maybe list some of the top must-have software programs that enhance the treo?

Try menu c for copy and menu p for paste

Only some apps allow this treo-enhanced functionality on the registration screen.

I use the application called Clip Pro and assign it to the side key defaulted to voice recording to launch it.
This works very well! Especially when you want to copy info from Splash ID to apps for registration.

And did you try FieldPlus? It's a freeware and it activates command bar and copy/paste feature. By pressing shift and using D-pad you can select text like in Windows. The command bar can be activated by pressing and holding menu button. Then you can tap on copy/paste button in the command bar.

Thanks for the tip with FieldPlus! It's better because it's FREE and easy to use!
I am using it right now.
THANKS AGAIN!

You can also press the center button on the 5way navigator to bring up a pop up menu with options like copy, cut, paste, select all, etc... after you have selected the text! Its a great program!!

There is no need to invoke it with a button because you can set it up to automagically launch when text is selected to copy. Not only does it cut, copy and paste, but it can also make an entire text string, or word, upper or lower case, you can add bullets or numbers, insert date or time, sort by ascending or descending, insert symbols, insert phone numbers or email addresses. Frankly, I can't believe the Palm goofs haven't bought the rights to this software and just made it part of the Palm offering.
This is one of the all-time great Palm apps.

But beware of Clip Pro on NVFS devices, I installed it on my TX and when ever the cache had to be flushed (manually or by a large app like Blazer) my device would crash. I tried locking it with Rlock, but whenever I launched it, it would also crash. I had to go back and disable Clip Pro, lock it, then re-enable it. Although this was quite a hassle, because it took me a little while to ascertain the cause of the problem/and the solution.

I have found that Clip Pro caused a lot of problems on NVFS devices and removed it. Sad, a great application, but .......
