I've had nothing but sony PDAs (CLie 610--->650---Th-55) and never had any problems. However my th-55 is getting a bit beat up and I was thinking of replacing it just because of wear at some point.
My needs are simple: large screen 480 X 320 and pocket size/weight i.e. th-55 size or less. I don't need phone or wireless access. I was planning on getting a palm PDA.
I'm only posting this because I'd heard from someone that replaced their sony with a palm PDA that they had a relatively lot of problems with e.g. the palm PDA freezing up, quality problems, etc. If this were true, I'd be sad but bite the bullet and get a pocket PC. I don't like the user interface of the pocket PC and the pocket PC is more computer than I need, but I'd go that way if it seemed more appropriate.
Thoughts?
Thanks for your time.

why do you not wait to the new O.S. devices?
How about replacing your TH55 with another TH55. Contact DanT if you're interested :)

Thanks Joel. I suspect that is what I will do.
knank,
Out of curiosity, do your comments mean there is a new palm OS presumably with new devices out soon?

Only thing that comes close is the iPhone, but if ya don't want that, then yah, another TH55 will be a good thing to get :).

Wel... soon i mean in 6 or 12 months, as i read in news, access will launch the New OS, and palm is developing another new Palm Os Linux based, but nothing is confirmed.
I think that the clie is still a very good PDA in Palm OS world. There's no other device that replace it in PalmOne side :P, Clie is still beating Palms.

6 to 12 months don't seem soon to me. getting a pocket PC might help you but you declared, you don't like it much. so why don't you get the same thing you are using now?
Thanks for the endorsement, Joel.
ScottLP, I have 10 TH55/Us and 3 TH55/E1s in excellent conditions and around 20 broken TH55s in various stages of condition for parts. I can turn (make over) your TH55 into like-new condition by replacing your wornout shell with a fairly new one for $75, including my brand-new aftermarket flipcover (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124194) and return shipping.
Better yet, be a 55 Nutcase member (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107671) and get a second TH55. So when one is out of commission or loss, you'll have a backup handy.
Here are two eBay auctions that I just placed:
1. TH55/U, Item number: 120116840424 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120116840424&rd=1&rd=1).
2. Smoke flipcover replacement kit for TH55, Item number: 120116840734 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:11&item=120116840734). ;)
Wow that Item number: 120116840424 was sold out (BIN) within one day of the aution. Here is another one: Item number: 120117145134 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:11&item=120117145134). ;)

My TX is very stable. Most of the problems upgraders have with newer Palm devices is because of improper upgrade procedure and installation of third-party applications incompatible with NVFS. The warnings are clearly stated in the Read This First flyer. Step-by-step upgrade directions at the top of the TX forum at Brighthand.com. Compatiblity lists at palmfocus.com.
