I started using TD when I read some posts concerning it in another thread. Everything seemed fine until I started fiddling with the settings. I have my card set up in such a way that I wish it to scan my whole card. I entered the directories I did not want scanned in the 3rd page of the prefs. I then asked it to rescan. Each time I do this it scans the directories I don't want scanned - mainly the backup directories - and gets stuck there, or at the very least it is taking so long that it seems stuck. The only thing I can think of is that I have to specify the subdirectory names as well, but this is impossible since these subdirectory names change with each backup.
Any Ideas (other than not scanning my whole card) - do I just have to wait an hour the first time or something?

I have been using TD since the very beginning, but since this feature was introduced Iīve never heard of it not working. Did you enter the paths in "tracker dog syntax", i.e. "/palm/programs/" ?
I just tested it by including a directory called "Archiv" and it works fine, since the apps there were marked as being deleted on the device (the small little "x"). Deleting the path from the exclusion list brought them back.

Yes, I even made sure of capitalization. I tried letting it run for 45 minutes and then I reset it.

All I can think of is some file on the card being corrupted and TD therefore stumbling about it. Did you do a CHKDSK for that card?
BTW; do you have the wikipedia files for MobiPocket / Tomeraider installed on the card? I notice a pretty long lag within TD (~5 secs) when it comes to searching for a version number in these rather big files (which reminds me that I wanted to exclude that directory, too).
EDIT: I checked my notes for TD (within TD) and found this: (1) subdirs are automatically included, (2) the feature of having it notify on a new version seems to be buggy, so I disabled it. These entries are from 2005 / 2004 resp., but Iīm sorry, I donīt remember more :)

It could be my card, I've had problems with it before. But if I say check whole card and then enter the palm -> backups directory as an excluded dir, how come it still searches it? It gets stuck in a subdir of the backups dir. Does that mean it parses it anyway?

All I can say is that I have excluded "/Palm/Programs/" and it doesnīt search there and itīs subdirs (used to search a long time there, because in /Palm/Programs/HAFAS are database files containing german train schedules, which are sort of huge and used to hold TD for some seconds).
Sorry I canīt be of more help.
