That's right! No missing sync needed to HotSync via USB. I suspect the fact that PD4.1 includes the USB drivers for Palm's OS 5 devices, it works!

Unfortunately, the Voice Memo and Photo conduits are of no use.

iSync continues to function beautifully as well.

Slight gotchya... I noticed that everytime the Clie got to backing up NetFront, the Conduit Manager would finish up immediately indicating an unknown error. The Clie would just sit there still trying to sync NetFront, even after hitting Cancel. The only fix I could come up with was to use FileZ to indicate that NetFront.prc had just been backed up. That application actually shouldn't be backup up anyway as it cannot be restored.

It would be great if people could deny or confirm all of what I've said.

Thanks!

You got it working? Great! contemplating to buy a palm device to sync with my mac os x... after selling off my linux and ppc pdas. Not keen to get a palm since clie seems more feature-rich. Was quite disappointed when was told that though clie uses palm os, it does not support mac......

So to recap... you manage to sync between your mac os x and clie through the usb. Able to transfer files? What did you use to transfer? isync? or palm desktop? not quite sure how isync works...

I am using ms entourage x since it integrates a calendar, contacts and mail together. can clie sync with entourage x?

Nice to see a fellow Clie user in Melbourne. I think you need missing sync to mount your MS and Sync your mp3's with itunes.

Yes, but please note that I've only tested with a TG50. My former Clie, a T615 used to work without Missing Sync as well, although many other Clie's in that day needed Missing Sync. Even without native support from the Palm Desktop installer, Missing Sync adds it beautifully in the form of a USB driver that will enable any USB clie to communicate with the HotSync mgr, so just add $30 to your budget anyway as you will get some other nice additional features although the only one that interests me is memory stick mounting.

File transfer can work a few ways. Installing files via HotSync manager. this works fine. You can even use HotSync manager to install direct to the Memory Stick. Also, I've been using Bluetooth File Exchange on my mac to send stuff to the TG50 which works great! Also, I've been using McFile on the Clie to do the reverse. iSync is merely a HotSync Manager conduit, so if you can HotSync... you can iSync. I don't touch Palm Desktop.

I'm surprised a UNIX man like yourself would use a microsoft product. Personally, I much prefer the integration of the apple solution which applies through all of their products. iSync is a conduit for HotSync Manager to sync your Palm with Address Book and iCal. Entourage has its own conduit for use with HotSync manager, so Entourage syncing will work just fine. I highly recommend AGAINST using multiple conduits to synchronize the same palm app with multiple mac apps... will get you in a lot of trouble.

Cheers!

I've been trying to add my PEG-TG50 as a device in iSync 1.0 but it when I scan for devices it does not show up. I can HotSync fine with Palm Desktop Though.

iSync Help tells the following:

1. Make sure you have iCal 1.0.1 or later installed
2. Open HotSync Manager.
3. Choose HotSync > Conduit Settings
4. In the Conduit Settings window, double click the iSync Conduit, then select "Enable iSync for this Palm Device"

There is no iSync Conduit for me to select...it's not there...anyone know why?

Thanksful for a quick answer.

You installed Palm Desktop AFTER iSync, or you have yet to install the iSync for Palm addition that comes with the iSync download.

Yes I installed Palm Desktop after iSync... I shouldn't have? What is the Palm addition that comes with the iSync download? I downladed iSync again and installed but it didn't say anything about a Palm addition.

What do you suggest I do now?

If you downloaded iSync, you would have noticed two installers in that package. Read the directions and install the second installer call iSync_Palm or something like that.

Oh one more thing... the CD that comes with the Clie is only for PC...I'm on a mac. Where can I find the additional software that's on there...online? i.e World Alarm Clock etc.

Just browse the directories on the PC CD. You'll see everything you can install.

A couple of questions:

1. Is it recommended to get Screen protector? (the thin transparent protector that goes on top of the screen)

2. Will it make the screen apear blurry?

3. Will it easily peal of when/if I want to sell my Clie?

4. Which one is the best screen protector for the TG-50?

Thanks

Those questions might be better suited in a topic (thread) about screen protectors. You MIGHT even find some existing topics (threads).

Yes, I'm using my tg50 with my ibook and mirrored g4 desktop.

I already purchased missing sync, and I believe its still worth it for the driver support (MS mounting and iPhoto and Itunes exporting!).

One thing, bluetooth syncing is so SLOW compared to USB.

However, surfing the web via shared bluetooh connection is cool, as long as your shut down the BT connection properly.

Surfing via BT is about as fast as on the T|C with direct 802.11. Which was cool at work, cause the guy with the new T|C looked silly. Especially when his T\C had multiple fatal exceptions running NetFront!

Plus the BT connection goes a length.

No, the regular hotsync works, it just that there is a iSync conduit for Hotsync. The iSync conduit replaces addressbook and calendar, and it reaches out, starts isync and syncs with Addressbook and iCal.
