I was wondering how much free RAM you try to keep in your NX. Do a lot of you use JackFlash?

I have about 3.6 free. ALL THIS WITHOUT POWERUN!!! Largest apps. I have stored in RAM are NF (2020) and Vindigo(2500). I have about 60 apps (including the Clie Files update and improved Clie Viewer) stored on my MS, as well as about 20 pics and 5 short vids I took with the Clie.

I've got 5.2MB free right now and I do use JackFlash. Don't use PowerRun though as I don't have any large databases really. Moved NetFront to ROM, so thats not sucking up RAM and most of my apps run from the MS using ZLauncher. Actually, ZLauncher takes up a good portion of my used RAM (1.1MB), but it's worth it.

I have no memory manager apps and 5 M free at this time... I just run all the apps from the MS in the Launcher folder or using their built in MS Install facilty

I try to keep at least 3mb free, so I am constantly moving files in and out of RAM with apps that cannot run using Powerrun such as ePocrates and Mapopolis. I'm really looking forward to a 64 MB RAM Clie. Jackflash helps a lot, but not enough.

Lots of stuff in the attic via JackFlash......mostly big ones that glitch off the MS, most are just run off the MS.
I did a "rip'n'strip" when I got JackFlash and cleaned everthing up.
Had almost 8mg. before some databases got bigger.

2.68MB free. Yes, we are anal about it, WHEN YOU ONLY HAVE 13M to work with............I wonder how long before that "new breakthrough" shows up in Palm OS PDA's................ I have so much necessary information, I deleted NetFront (opening 62% of available RAM). I have no wireless need at the moment, but would like to add the WI-FI at a later time. Does anyone run it of a MS and does it work well?

NXTacy

There wireless drivers take up about 100k. Since it's a system device driver you need it in ram. Not worth it to move it back and forth. I've heard of folks using a launcher to run. Trying to just run it from palm\launcer will give you a not enough memory error.

I wonder what the maximum possible free RAM is. Even after a hard rest I don't think I got close to 13MB free. I've got about 4.5MB free on my TG50 at the moment. LOTS of stuff on my memory stick.

I have 5.8MB available about 30 apps loaded in RAM on the system; no large databases. I have several pics, some ebooks/PDFs, and movie trailers loaded on the MS.

8.42 meg free, PowerRun & JackFlash optimized as well as using the Palm/Launcher directory for things that don't NEED PowerRun.

JackFlash
McFile

PowerRun
TomCatalog

I've optimized my PowerRun/Palm/Launcher settings to ONLY use PowerRun for apps that NEED it, ie they have databases. Otherwise you end up with shortcuts that use up 2-15k of RAM and those add up. Sure, it's EASY to just use PowerRun to move'em, but it's a good thing to go back and see if you REALLY need to use it (Check the directory it moved it into to see if any files other than the main PRC copied over after running it, if not, it should work in the palm/launcher directory.)

Doesn't the NZ suffer from the same 11MB only that the NX does. How can you have 13MB free.

   About 6 mb.

I run everything i possibly can off my stick and then some powerrun. I have over 90 apps on my stick, and probably 15 big databases plus mp3s and video.

That PowerRun checking thing is a good idea.

BTW I keep at least 3mb free to run rifleSlug.

Puppy

I've got around 1-1.5MB left, though I haven't started moving most stuff to memory sticks yet. I'm not sure how I'm going to divide it up (I'd like a single MS with all my games, large documents, AND media, but I think I might need to use one small MS for my docs and programs, and seperate ones for media).

I received my brand-new NX70 on Saturday... upon the first HotSync i only had 1.2 MB!!!!! I had an SJ30 (any takers??) and use BackupBuddy. I moved some stuff to my 64 MB MS, and plan on getting JackFlash, and install Powerrun later tonight. At one point I had LESS than 1MB!!

I loved the 15 MB available in my SJ 30, but ADORE the NX70! As of now, 4/29/03 @ 8:03 AST in Puert Rico, I have 1.2 MB available.

4652KB free on my TG50.

I'm thinking about moving Netfront into RAM with cache, which would take up about 3.5mb, but the load time is soo annoyingly with powerrun. Rifleslugs is pretty slow to load with powerrun also.

Can't waith for a 64mb CLIE, then I can put everything into RAM.

Geez, moved Avantgo to a Memory Stick...and I can't believe how long it takes to Sync and load now! I'd prefer moving my mail program and NetFront to the MS, but they apperently don't want to be there.

11MB just isn't enough. It's effectivly a bit less than the 8MB on my Visor.

What do you mean by that statement ??

I have 6.2mb free and for some apps it's needed, like Picsel Viewer and large documnets. Using PowerRun makes the 6mb relatively tight. Other apps clearly run a bit better with plenty of RAM.

It's no problem if you use PowerRun! Most run NetFront and their email from the memory stick via PowerRun. Check it out, it's a great app and it moves the stuff to the meemory stick for you, db's and all.

Right now, I have a little more than 7 MB free RAM. I PowerRun anything I can that won't screw up the app's usage, and all the databases (Word To Go fonts, game databases) that have to be in RAM I keep on the card and copy to RAM when I need them. When I'm done, I delete them. This way, I get the NetFront error a lot less frequent, and I have room to excercise a bit.

5.6 free here. I've got a couple of programs I could still move, but like having in RAM. I do use powerrun for a few things that don't work well with zlauncher, but I don't use jackflash

Are you really running less than a meg? For some apps, that would never be enough.

Which apps are known to be troublesome when moved to MS?? I tried moving Autobase, and it worked fine, but the DB, after moving it also, would not work... all info was blank!

Just curious...

Guatio,

Some lo res applications run poorly on MS. There are ways to have lo res applications on MS but I choose to keep them in RAM

4.7 megs free, and man I don't like that. If I could have it the way I wanted, netfront, word to go, and all other huge apps would run off the memory stick. and I'm cheap, I don't like to pay for software, so I don't have power run or jack flash.
