Hot sync crash!

NR70 suddenly crashes with every hotsync...tried a warm-reset...tried deleting various apps.

Error: DataMgr .c, Line:9573, Index out of range

Any help, out there?

What is the specific sequence? Does any part of Hotsync execute? If so, what is the last log entry? What hacks do you have loaded? Other low-level system software?

If Hotsync actually starts syncing and then crashes, chances are it's a corrupt database that crashes its conduit. If Hotsync doesn't start at all, then it's probably a software conflict on your NR. The place to look is the last app you installed or updated. Low-level stuff like MS Mount, PiDirect, and others can cause adverse interactions between apps and Hotsync. Even v3bHack can crash Hotsync if it doesn't like the screen icon.

Chances are, you added a new app to your PDA, and HotSync is having trouble with it.

Look at your PDA at the time when HotSync crashes to see what it is processing at the exact moment of the abend. It tells you what file is being processed on your PDA.

It will likely be the app, or something related to the app you just installed.

Then you need to see if you can tell the HotSync to not process the files for that App.

I will give you an example of HotSync problems I have had, and how I resolved them:

1. I installed an app called ProgramList which takes a snapshot of all of your apps and files, and creates a Memo in MemoPad.
After running the app the first time, it created a new Memo.
Then when I ran HotSync, it abended right when it was processing the MemoPad program. It abended with a problem with Kernel.DLL (which is Windows main executable). So to resolve this, I deleted the Memo the ProgramList app created, and I deleted all of the other Memos in my Windows\Program Files\Palm\(user)\MemoPad folder. I ran HotSync and it worked fine.

2. I installed DocumentsToGo, and HotSync abended in a DocumentsToGo DLL file while it was HotSyncing a document. To resolve this, I turned off the DocumentsToGo HotSyncing, which is an option in the Windows 98 portion of the app. Then I ran HotSync again, and it worked fine. I still want to get HotSync working for DocumentsToGo, but it is not a real big deal to me if I don't get it working.

So the first thing to check for when you have a HotSync problem is ... what did you recently install to your PDA... and is the HotSync abending in that specific process or something which may be related to it ?

I had this problem after editing an appointment that has an alarm in DateBook. It happens whenever I tap the appointment and tap Details button, then change the date to another date. Intellisync Lite does not seem to like it and look for missing appointment in Outlook and not smart enough to recognize that I have move the appointment forward to another date. Since then, whenever I want to change an appointment, I just copy it to the new date and delete the old one. I have no crashing during HotSync anymore since (knock on wood).

My clie crashes sometimes when restoring stuff after a hard reset, most annoying, i have to copy stuff to ms...mess it around, and then most of the time when i hotsync it the next day after removing some stuff it'll be ok
