I just felt I should voice my concern for the CF driver and how it fits in with my purposes -

I have a 128MB Memory Stick and 512MB CF card in the Clie

I have tweaked the CF driver to perfection. I have done a what i call 'manual' trick mode

Basically, i done trick mode but instead of auto-mount i left it as normal ...benifits ?

Well, basically i got a bit tired of pulling the CF card out when i wanted to take a quick snap and was concerned abut the phsyical wear n tear

The manual trick mode solves this. I dont know how it happened, but the photos i take with the clie are stored in the memory stick while the CF card is in the actual slot and in masquarade.

Once i'm done taking photos, i can listen to mp3s and videos stored in the CF which get regconised.

Then i can run programs off the MS using powerrun whilst at the same time listening to an mp3 off the CF card

I never get any errors and now I don't have to keep pulling the CF card out & also MS Import works fine even with the CF card in the slot.

I know it needed a bit of tweaking to get it to working, but it does its job as a DRIVER and for this early stage I am proud of the product and I think it deserves the $27 and of course, when an update is realeased i will love it even more

Just my 2 cents

Is this like the debate where the cup is either half full or half empty?

Seriously there are two sides to every coin. As I said before in different words, this is for some, a God send and a life savor :)!

I think everyone would agree, that at the very least, it has enhanced the functionality of the Clie. For some more than others, of course there is always room for improvement in any product.

I still want to know how my life would be saved. I would buy it for sure if increased longevity is included :).

All I know is that the entire contents of my four memory sticks are now inhabiting a one gig CF card, with 730 megs free. My library of 400 odd novels is now on a single device, and accessible with TealDoc as with no change, I don't even need Masquerade mode.

I'm sure that by the time I'm into playing huge movies and mpg3s that an elegant solution will be available.

Except for a backup on my MS for obvious reasons, I keep everything on my 1GB CF with 500 MB of MP3's and 275MB (well actually 273MB) still left free. I love how I can get to work without having to hear the same song off my old plain MS.

Now these kinds of posts are what I want to hear at the end of the day! There's nothing like a positive outlook on a new kind of application and where users spend time to find creative uses for it.

Positive inputs serve to encourage the developers who are doing their best to give the best for us end users.

Yes, the CF Driver rocks!

And constructive criticism is bad? It is what makes a product truely "Rock!" with improvements and fitting the users needs more percisely. Positive is good, it tells you what to keep, but doesn't tell you what to change to keep your customers;)

Amen, Tixx.

Sometimes you would think that someone offering constructive criticism is insulting these guys' mothers.

Thanks for being a breath of rational air. (Funny to hear old guys saying something rocks - haha)

Don't get me wrong I admire constructive criticisms. As you've seen here in Cliesource, there are much more raw criticisms rather than constructive ones.

(but I've had tons of coffee now so I'm feeling all right and can again take on the criticisms at face value :))

Yeah, word up CF driver Rocks! & I've just placed an order for SanDisk 1G CF on amazon.com for only $176.99 free shipping no rebate tricks either. :D

About the photos being able to be taken, yep, it works when you do a manual mount with the CF, while MS in Masquarade mode, as long as you don't pull out that MS, it'll always be known as the secondary memory drive. & I agree on the tear & wear thing with the CF. :D

I got my 1GB Viking Card today and I've been playing with the driver for a while. My first reaction was, "Wow, This is just great" Then I started thinking about all the negative posts that I've read on the last three days and I couldn't justify them. The Compact Flash driver is AMAZING, period. In fact it does what we all wanted it to do.

There are some bugs, but as I stated before this is the first early release. We should expect some bugs. For those of you who are not familiar with programming, let me tell you that the nature of software is to have bugs, just like the nature of human beings is to err from time to time.

The Interface needs to be more user friendly. I don't have problems with the GUI, but If EruWare wants to sell this to the general public, it must improve the GUI.

Overall, I'm 100% satisfied with my CF driver and my 1GB Viking Card. I can't wait to test future versions of this promising driver.

I agree that it rocks, but there are some things that could be better:
1. Remember AutoMount setting after a reset.
2. Remember MS Masquerade after reset, but do a reset when user changes that setting.

I know both of the above were done the way they are for safety purposes, but I think that, at least, #1 could be implemented without a problem. If the driver became unstable for some reason, the user can still do a warm reset and remove the driver.

All things considered, I feel it has gone fairly well. As time goes by it'll get better. There have been many products that over time have developed into outstanding applications from user feedback.

Anybody know if the Targus Pocket Modem will work in the slot?

I'm glad to hear all this good stuff about the driver. I've held off on ordering it to see if there were any major problems, but I may finally do it. My decision now is whether to get a 512 MB or 1 GB CF card.

Not with the CF memory driver.

There is a generic CF modem driver that works with the Ambicom.

http://clienx_cf_modem.tripod.com/

There is a list somewhere in Cliesource. The above link use to list the modems, now it's only the driver.

i wouldn't go so far as to say it "rocks", but it certainly doesn't "suck".
it has exceeded my expectations and saved me money in the process which can't be a bad thing alll round
