My friend recently bought an NX model with one catch. the unit is refurbished. Upon inspection everything was going well with the unit until I noticed that when I'd try to BEAM something to his handheld from my T-615 nothing would happen, not even the connecting pop up dialog. After I noticed that the NX wouldn't receive I tried sending something to my T-615 from his NX and nothing even comes up when the BEAM selection is picked on the NX. Funny thing is that CLIERMC works just fine. Is it common for this to happen to refurbished units, or can it be fixed by tweaking some settings? Thanks for your time...

There are actually two differerent IR transmitters on the NX. One is for sending data and another is for the remote control function. It is likely one of them is damaged. Not sure is there is any fix since it is a refurbished model.

I had presumed that but I'm hoping for a fix cause without beaming there's little functionality.

Have they tried beaming right after a hard reset? Depending on how they transfered stuff from their old Palm, their could by systems stuff left over that screws up IR. I've had that happen.

I know this may sound simple, but is 'beam receive' set to on in preferences (under general)?

Check what kdn102 says first, then do a soft reset before proceeding any further. Sometimes the IR can get confused. As a last resort backup your Clie and a hard reset. If that doesn't fix it, then it's most likely hardware as cbulock says.
