Does VZ NetFront v3.1 have to be in RAM to run properly?

I've read the entire thread and I'm still a little confused about some things!
On one hand I'm being told that VZ NetFront v3.1 has to be loaded in RAM to run... it can't be loaded on a memory stick or in Int. Media... on the other hand there are those like Crazy_Smeggie and .PoNeH that have had success in running this application from either the Memory Stick or Int. Media.

I have about 1.8M of RAM left on my device and would like to free up some space.

Questions...

1. Can I install the VZ NetFront v3.1 translated version on my memory stick and use a program like Power Run, ZLauncher or Link Start to access it?

2. Can I install it in Int. Media and run it from there successfully?

3. Crazy_Smeggie... what do you mean by the "Root of the Internal Memory card"? What files did you put there?

4. If VZ NetFront v3.1 can be ran from the Memory Stick or Int. Media can I remove/delete the old NetFront from the RAM of my device. It seems useless to have it remain if I'm not going to use it.... It'll just be taking up precious space!

Thanks in advance for responding!

A while back, a member posted a version of NetFront 3.1, which he patched to allow it to be used in conjunction with the AliasExt feature. So, you can put this in your internal memory in the AliasExt directory, and then run it.

A couple things though:
- As with anything running from the AliasExt directory, or a memory stick, you must have an equal amount of RAM free to run it.
- By using this particular version of NetFront 3.1, NetFront 3.0 will still be available on your Clie. This means than any links you open from ClieMail will load in NetFront 3.0 instead of 3.1. Same if you happen to be using the Hagiwara Sys-Com WLAN utility.

Is this what you wanted? Let me know and I'll copy it off my Clie back onto the computer. Unfortunately, I can't remember which member did this, so I can't give him/her credit! It's probably still buried in these forums somewhere.

Thanks for responding rcxAsh...

Yes...

Please provide a copy of the 'patched' version NetFront 3.1 that will allow me to use it in conjunction with the AliasExt feature.

If you'd rather email it to me my email address is: g326m2001@yahoo.com.

I do still have a question...

If VZ NetFront v3.1 can be moved to AliasExt and ran from there can I remove/delete the old NetFront from the RAM of my device?

Thanks Again...

Hey gman, I've uploaded the patched NetFront here:
http://rcxash.ath.cx/~ashley/clie/NetFront31a.prc

Put it in your AliasExt, and it should work. At least, that's the way I've been using it for a couple years now.

With respect to the old NetFront 3.0, unfortunately, I do not believe that it is possible to delete it. You can try, but I think that's it's there for good.

Anyway, let me know how it works out for you!

No, that file is not a patch by itself. Rather, it is the patched version of NetFront 3.1. Instead, copy it to your internal memory via the Data Import tool, or via a memory stick.

Put it in /Palm/Programs/AliasExt/ (create those directories if they don't exist) and then soft reset your device. You should then be set to go!
