OK, here's the blurb:

---

Can you get the treasure and get out alive?

Journey through four different landscapes ranging from forests to tombs and more...

Trick and trap your adversaries and clear your path of obstacles to collect your bounty. Cross unstable bridges, dodge destructive (and moving) level elements and avoid a multitude of other hazards, including mines and swamps...

At times you'll need to move quickly, while other maps require careful planning; Exodus 3 is a mix of arcade and strategy that will keep you engaged for hours...

:: 60 levels over four episodes, each with their own distinctive elements, enemies and backdrops
:: More than 20 unique level elements including crates, swamps and transporters
:: Hi-res colour graphics for Sony Handhelds
:: Animated character movement, explosions, level transitions and more

---

This should work on colour Cliés that are pre-OS5 but as I only have one model I have no way of testing it. So if you're willing to risk a hard reset and you have a colour Clié please install this demo. As long as you don't have OS5. Geddit?

It definitely works OK on my T-625C.

You can get it at http://www.craigsdomain.co.uk/e3_demo.zip (it isn't linked to from the site, so just click on this link).

Thanks,

Craig M

I can confirm it works fine on an NZ90... there's one problem though: The level name is big, and goes down almost into the level board (not quite, though), as is the level and item text. The graphics are beautiful, and it's an interesting twist on games like Socoban and Mummy Maze, being real-time and having to collect items while escaping.

Here too (NX70). There are some problems due to the font dimensions (too big most of the times).

Font thing on my NX too. I suck at this game, but the graphics are real nice:) It is like...oh wait, Golden Tiger already said it:)

Yea, this game is pretty cool. Haven't gotten very far, and the only problem on the NX I've noticed is like the others have said is the font is a little large. Graphics are very nice!

It works on an NX? Someone else tried it and apparently it crashed it when they tried to install.

Thanks for risking that when I said *don't* try it on a PalmOS 5 device :)!

I'll look at the font sizes, but I wrote it on a T-series and the font values must be different. Is it fast on an NX? Has anyone tried it on an NR or TG?

If you're having problems with the first level, you should be able to just hold the buttons down to move faster.

http://www.craigsdomain.co.uk/e3exdemo.zip

This is a link to an extended demo, which is more like the full game, in that all the graphics (needed or not) are included. I've done this because I need to know if file size caused the OS5 crash (on the CliéPlanet webmaster's Clié). As such this is about 460K in size (although the zip file is much smaller).

This demo has 16 levels. The final release demo will just have the 8, so this is an exclusive! BTW, I haven't fixed the font bug on OS5 devices yet, but I'm looking into it.

Please test this too! Especially on an NR.

Thanks,

Craig

Don't feel bad. I had the same problem. I thought it was the same as the Mummy game from PopCap/Astrware, but you don't take turns moving with the mummy, you have to move fast. Here's what you do:

Lure the mummy out
Go to the top row fast!
Go all the way to the left on that top row
When the mummy is right on the other side of the wall to you, go real fast around and get to the end.

Does that help?

I beat level 2. For those of you having trouble, if you match two of the blue blocks that are going the same way they both disappear. Then, you just have to be faster than the mummy!

Hmm, ok, am I playing the same game as you guys?

I don't want to come off sounding like a smartass, but I'm finding this game to be fairly easy. It requires more thinking than most other Palm games I've played (the only other games I've played are Bejeweled and Snood) but I'm finding it hard to believe that people can't get past level 2, nevermind level 1.

I downloaded the second link that Craig gave.

I'm using an NR70v, I have Switchdash running, and this game runs perfectly fine. (Usually, I have to have Switchdash disabled to run some games)

I haven't detected any sound at all. Perhaps I'm just playing it in a loud environment, I'll check on it later.

I haven't noticed any glitches yet. I'll try playing more tonight.

Great looking game so far. Nice job!

If you want to know what the blocks do just tap the "i" button at the bottom right and then an area on the level.

Some of the levels just require speed, while others need lots of thinking ahead.

As for the sound - there isn't any! I can only really work with beeps, and I thought that might be insulting to people with high-end Cliés! Actually, my real excuse is that the program was getting too big, and to add sound would push it over the 32K limit I have to work with using OnBoardC (which is what I wrote it with).

If you're having trouble with the first few levels, don't forget:

You can hold buttons down to move fast
Monsters try to follow you horizontally first
The i button is very useful

Has anyone got to the final level in the extended demo (the first jungle level)?

Well, I got through Nasty Part I (I think that was Level 13) only to be greeted by Nasty Part II.

I found level 13 to be more tedious than difficult, but I wanted to get through it.

When I was greeted by an almost identical level afterwards, I just didn't feel like playing anymore. I think having two levels in a row like that can turn off some people.

That's just my $0.02 CDN. Other than that, it's an otherwise great game.

Ah well. Nasty II wasn't as tedious as I thought it would be. I didn't bother getting that book, I just went straight to the exit. What did I miss?

I just finished the demo. Very nice game overall. I think it'll be quite successful.

The nasty levels definitely annoy me though. I guess that's the point. :)

Perhaps I'll remove Nasty Part II, or remove Nasty Part I with Nast Part II...

Be thankful you never got to read the scroll thingy - it says something like...er...I forget, but it tells you that your trapped. Once you've read it you're stuck there!

Thanks for the positive feedback. I might put the full version up for 24 hrs provided it isn't distributed, because I need to know if it works.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but when you go over the first square in each of the levels and get the level directions, it might be a good idea to have a check box with a "Don't show this again". It's exra-frustrating if you're having trouble with a level to repeatedly see that nag. Kinda like 'nyah nyah' :)

Also, I'm using a T615C and the line breaks in the instructions are all messed up.

I really like this game though. The graphics are cool and it's obviously challenging. Thanks for sharing! :D

I wrote it on a T625-C, which is the UK equivalent of a T615-C (I think).

As for the line break problem - does this occur in the level hints or the help, or both?

It's hard to see some graphics on a grayscale PDA (my SJ-20). Otherwise, an excellent and very challenging game, well done!:D

try to adjust the contrast on the sj20, it may help.
the game is so exciting and it is so good that it can run on my poor sj20......

It works on greyscale Cliés? There are no colour graphics, so it must convert them. How fast does it run? Are the level transitions and about screen animation smooth?

Just the level hints.

Well I don't know how to fix the line break thing - are you sure they aren't just part of the level hints. My brother wrote the ones in the Egypt episode, most of which are fairly pointless.

I will sort out the font problem for NX users though.
