It's been a while since I've released an Accessorizer beta. In 0.37, I fixed one or two bugs, and I added a new feature where you can set the color theme of the accessorized applications so you can tell when you're in an accessorized application. To do that, download the wonderful free Khroma (http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/khroma.shtml) and create a theme named "Accessorizer". That theme will automatically be used by accessorizer. (You can load another Khroma theme, and then use "Save as..." to copy that to "Accessorizer").
For anybody who missed it, Accessorizer creates Desk Accessories (DAs) out of apps, allowing you to run one app on top of another. It is not compatible with all devices--there are T3 and widescreen Sony problems.

With 0.37 I get a crash each time I exit an Accessorizer DA that is raised over Launcher X. If I raise a DA over something else, it returns normally to the underlying application. So far this has been true for ApplicationsDA, ContactsDA, CalcDA, and ChronMemoDA.
Importing the Accessorizer theme from Khroma works fine. (But the FreewarePalm link for that is dead.)

No, 0.36 works fine. I've gone back to it.
BTW, I did try recreating one of the DAs, just in case, but that didn't make a difference.

FIxed in 0.38.
Can you install the new version over an existing version?

I get a soft reset if I launch any Accessorizer DA over PTunes v 3.x, regardless if it is playing or not, landscape or portrait, the DIA is up or down. I'm launching DAs using MyKbd. I'm still using Accessorizer version 0.24. So I don't know how long this problem has persisted.

PT v4.02 & Accessorizer v0.34 work fine to launch a DA over PT on my TX.

Accessorizer v0.38 and pt 4.02 seem to work fine. But after fiddling with pt after coming out of the DA it crashes, or it locks up. If a tune is playing it stops when I exit the DA.
EDIT: After the last crash my LX database had been erased. Luckily I keep a backup on my card.

Well, I wouldn't suggest to use Accessorizer over an app which supports background work on its own. Accesssorizer is an hack and one should use it only in a situation where it really makes sense and speeds up life...

Just wondering... Any reason to try making a DA from pTunes with Accessorizer, if you can use a pTunesDA (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&prodid=126414&PartnerREF=&siteid=1), which works just fine, and doesn't crash with LX (this is my default launcher)?
Oops... Sorry, looks like I misunderstood the situation -- it's about launching another DA over pTunes, not making a pTunes a DA. Nevermind... :o

It seems I'm in the minority here but I'll state my situation, though I've written this in other threads looking for answers. I listen to lectures/discourses/sermons on my Palm using PTunes. However as I study, I must read along in materials I store locally. Here's the rub. It's absolutely necessary for me to rewind and fast-forward the recording to absorb the material.
I have two alternatives. I can exit the reading app, switch to Ptunes, seek the place I'm interested in, switch apps again, either causing me to lose my place or more typically my train of thought. It's a kludge. Same goes for listening to recordings while driving and using GPS. I must choose between missing a detail or missing a turn. The PTunes pop-up console doesn't support FF/Rew though it clearly supports other transport functions, and NormSoft remains disinterested in helping.
I found another app that allows my to jump 5 seconds ahead/behind while in background play, which is better than nothing. I still want the ability to scrub audio. I hoped Accessorizer could speed up the kludge process of switching between apps. Launching PTunes as an Accessorized DA while already playing fails because of a check Accessorizer performs. Launching a reader app overtop Ptunes no longer works in these recent versions. Thanks anyway.

Why not use TCPMP which keeps your spot in the item you're listening to, and has ff/rew? Supports mp3 and ogg.

I feel your frustration... I've written PT regarding the pop-up console and FF/RW functions - they wrote back saying while they could not give me details, they were planning to rework some of the functions to the pop-up. I do the same thing that you do in listening to lectures w/ PT and writing notes in Docs2Go - I just program a hard button temporarily to launch the pop-up while in D2G and try to pause as quick as I can - but I agree the ability to do more would be nice.
I would like to know what app you found that allows for the jump ahead/behind. Could you provide a link or at least a name - it does sound better than nothing.

So you can launch TCPMP as a DA safely over the top of D2G and/or Plucker? Or you can you safely launch D2G and/or Plucker as DAs over the top of TCPMP?
The problem with PT is not having it keep your spot (it does that) it's being able to FF/RW as a DA while in another application.

Ah, I see the issue. Nevermind my post.
I think Accessorizer is rather unlikely to work with audio player applications.

Yes there is... I have it. But it works only as an alternative to bring up the pop-up console instead of the hard button or swipe that is stock in PT (you can launch the PT popup with your DA launcher). If PT is not already running in the background, it will launch PT and close the app you are currently using (dispite the DA name)

I have the same problem as you describe, and I'm very interested in the app that you mentioned here. The name of the app, and/or a link would be greatly appreciated.
I would like to mention that Areoplayer allows for full control of the playback, but I've had other problems with it, so I don't use it very often.

Why not use TCPMP...Just to be clear, I need background play to read and listen simultaneously.I would like to know what app you found that allows for the jump ahead/behind. Could you provide a link or at least a name It's EasyLaunch5 (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=112582). It's was well worth the money for me. For example, you can assign +/-5 sec audio skip to a specific type of hard button press (it supports variations and combinations) or a customizable stylus swipe.means, one need to write a new popup for PTunes...Absolutely. Anyone who can program, please...do so...anyone.

I really like accesorizer. But there is 1 small but annoying bug:
Launch ptunes to play in background
Go back to zlauncher
Try to launch ptunesda
And have message "ptunes is already running" or something like this.
Treo 650, any accesorizer version from 007 and up.
Can this be fixed?
MetaView

What do you want to do? Why do you try to call ptunesda at all? You have the ptunes-console or you might call my PlayerControlDA to control ptunes in the background.
Mar00k
04-11-2007, 03:23 PM
Well, in console or in your playercontrolda (even not free) I can't open new songs, use equalizer, etc.
I just wish to use all functions of ptunes.
And I use it now, because I use accesorizer 007, everything works.
But from version 008 and up there is ability to sublaunch apps, and this is really needed sometimes.
Alex, maybe just add option to accesorizer "not check app from launching on the top over itself"?
I think this is not really complicated after all you done with accesorizer! =)

I created TasksDA, but whenever I run it, my treo 650 gsm resets. Everything else seems good so far.
Am I alone? This is not a big deal, I can still pull up the regular Tasks, not the DA, but then when I exit it, I won't go back to where I was.....

I get a crash when I try to Accessorize Ereader or NoahPro on my Garmin iQue. It makes no difference whether I use UDMH. The crash occurs when I try to exit the DA by tapping on the Home icon--the screen goes blank and it either resets or I have to reset with a pin.
I thought at one time it has to do with the application accessing the database on my SD card. I though maybe the card file is not being closed properly on exit, but even after I moved the database to RAM the DA crashes as well.
Also, after I run UDMH, the info in UDMH tells me I have increased dynamic memory, but MemInfo shows no change with UDMH enabled. Can someone explain this?

UDMH usually doesn't patch the API which is called to get the free amount of dyn. memory. To force it to do so, you need to add the app in the UDMH list and it will show the amount of free memory, you entered for this app.

Two questions:
1. What's the DAkey.prc in the zip file? I can't find any mention of it.
2. I just created CalcDA on my Treo 680 and it works fine. How do you escape from it to the application you were in when CalcDA was called? There's no "Quit" built into it like other DAs. I can use Hi-Launcher's "back" function to return, but then why should I use Accessorize? I could just put the un-accessorized Calc app in my Hi-Launcher popup list.

To escape from an Accessorized app DA you would just use your home button (either screen or hard button) as you normally would exit any regular app. The difference is that your CalcDA can be launched on top of an already running application - and then when you exit CalcDA you'll go back to the application that was running instead of your launcher.
For example... Say I'm in Docs2Go writing up a document and I need to do a quick calculation. I would just launch my CalcDA (that I personally have assigned to a macro button using myKbd) do the math and hit home button -immediately return to D2G right where I left off. = 2 taps (1 for launch & 1 for exit)
Where the "Old" way would require me to completely exit D2G, return to my launcher, find the calc app, launch it & do the math, exit calc app, return to launcher, find & launcher D2G = 6-7 taps for my TX configuration.

Too difficult to implement ?I won't speak for the developer, but several of us were experiencing crashes when the DIA appeared or disappeared, and somewhere along the line, he removed that capability. I am not competent to say why, but I no longer have issues with resets. I'm reasonably sure you can find out when in the sequence of development this happened and find some discussion from Alex Pruss by following through this thread from the beginning.

Here is a new puzzle: When I run CalcDA (created with Accessorizer) and then rotate the screen to landscape, my device crashes when I try to rotate back to portrait. The Crash Pro log says the error is is ScientificCalc 1.0.1. The error is Emul68KCommon.c, Line: 1648, Index out of range.
I can exit CalcDA when in landscape orientation to the underlying application by tapping the home icon, and I can return to CalcDA successfully, although it still presents itself in landscape. No matter what, though, trying to return to portrait orientation while in the DA causes the screen to go white and then the device to reset.
I have no such troubles going from portrait to landscape and back with CalendarDA, ContactsDA, ApplicationsDA, or ChronMemoDA - all created with Accessorizer.
I do not regard this a much of a practical problem in actual use, but I thought I'd report it in case it says something about Accessorizer tghat needs attention. I'm using version 0.38.

I probably should disable rotation while in the DA. I can only do this easily on the T5 and later, but that's something. That's fine by me. As I said, I don't think I can think of a likely reason to have to have rotation. I suppose if I were in an application in landscape mode and activated a DA, I'd like it to work in the same orientation, though. Edit to follow up: Activating the DA while in landscape orientation does presently work without difficulty. Just can't go to landscape from portrait and back while in CalcDA.
I'd be much more interested in seeing the return of the full screen DAs the earlier versions had than in having rotation. Not that I expect that to come back, mind you.
