Hi....
I like downloading MP3s from the internet such as speeches, lectures and sermons but they do not transfer over to the clie. I get a message that it has a security lock or something of that sort.
I have tried re-converting it in Itunes but it's still unreadable. I tried converting it also in MusicMatch at 128kbps and although it finally plays on my Clie, it is sped up like I'm listening to something in fast-forward mode. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm on a Mac OS10.2 so please suggest programs for that OS vs. PC.
Thanks!!!
Sonserae

Be sure that when you are converting, that the bitrate of the speech/lecture is compatible with your mp3 compression program. Sometimes upsampling (especially since spoken word is usually 8-bit because you don't need to hear all the violins) from 8 to 16 bit or even a false setting along those lines will give you that Chipmunk feel. You might also want to be sure your Clie can handle the output compression rate. Just a thought!

Can you say what you just wrote in layman's terms?
I'm just a chick.

Ok...here it goes...you have two things to think about with any mp3. 1) the quality of the recording (8 bit, 16 bit, 24 bit) and 2) how much you want to compress it (96kbps, 128kbps, 160kbps and so on).

IF the original recording was done as 8 bit quality and your copression software is set for 16 bit, then it going to want to fit TWICE as much music into the same amount of time, thus making the mp3 sound TWICE as fast. SO, you must make sure that the two settings match. My idea was that if there's a way to adjust this in your software, it just might solve the problem you speak of. Keep those chick figers crossed! ;)

Oh....Now I understand! Thank you very much for explaining it to me. It makes sense now!
THANK YOU!

Okay Contravox, here's the deal. I tried converting the file to the same bit rate that it was originally in. It is unreadable at that bit rate. I was told that the only readable files with the audioplayer are 128kpbs. When I bump up the conversion to that rate, it actually plays (which is better than not playing) but it is double or triple the speed. Are there any audioplayers for the clie that accept different bit rates? This is really frustrating....
Thanks for your help....

There is a REALONE player that Palm has out for its Tungsten PDA, although you might have to be a registered user to download it.
http://www.palm.com/realoneplayermobile

There might be another option or two for software, but I'm not too familiar with them. Another thing you might be able to try if you haven't already, is revert your file back to .wav format and THEN try recompressing it. I don't think it's a Clie problem though. This is the first I've heard of this particular problem with the Clie. Does this only happen with one specific file? Have you been able to get ANY mp3's to work? Don't let it get you frustrated...I'm sure the problem will be found soon =)~

Well...I did try to convert the files over to WAV and AIF and then reconvert them to 128kbps but
it still didn't work. I will download the realoneplayer and see if that works. Thanks for all of your advice and I'll let you know how it goes!

I got a slightly different problem. I've got one song, Bolero by Craig Armstorng, and its been encoded at 128 kbps but when I drop it into MS Export, it says, "This file isn't readable by AudioPlayer, transfer anyway?" or something like that. wtf?

Are you all using the TG50 w/ OS 5? I've got an NR, OS 4.1, and the Audioplayer in that only reads mp3s if they are at a sample rate of 44.1 khz; the bitrate (8, 16, 32, 64, 128) is yet another feature...

Well, I've tried the realoneplayer link and it said that it is not compatible with Clie's. I searched Palmgear for other 3rd party audioplayers and they stated that they don't work on Clie's either because Sony will not give them the specs for them to write software. I wrote Sony and told them to get their act together. Either they need to fix their audioplayer or cooperate with the 3rd party software developers so they can write something that works. If any of you find something that works, let me know. I'm up against a wall and have tried everything. I have now decided to purchase an IPod.

Heck, the new Ipod rocks anyway! If you wanted to play a lot of mp3's and just keep organized on the side, an Ipod and a little dayplanner would be perfect! ;) sonserae, I tried to re-create your problem and cannot. Best wishes on your Ipod...I'm jealous!

Why do you use MSExport and not only the Explorer in combination with MSImport? In that way you can just copy everything to the MS and just see if the audioplayer plays the song or not?! ;)
