Due to an apparent bug in the Palm TX's operating system (I do not know if the problem is present on the LD), an unnecessary event (firstUserEvent) is generated whenever the WiFi disconnects (e.g., due to inactivity) or fails to connect. This can result in incorrect functionality in whatever application is running when the disconnect happens. In one application I know this causes a crash. In another, it causes incorrect functionality.
FixWiFi is a new control panel (go to the Prefs application to start it) that unofficially fixes this problem.
Note: The developer is not affiliated with Palm.
Full source code (public domain!) is included.

Interesting ! I going to check if it solves the Operamini issue, I have to restart it very often because it cannot reconnect after disconnect. Did you already identify any specific aplication which would benefit from Fixwifi ?

Will it work with Treo 650 as well? I find that the wi-fi connection times out periodically with the Enfora Wi-Fi sled and it takes me a few tries to get the connection back by exiting out of the app and getting back in and so forth. I thought it was just the sled. Maybe it's a Palm issue?

It will work with the Treo, but I have my doubts about whether it will fix this problem.

Just installed it and you're right. It doesn't seem to make any noticeable change. For whatever reason, the Wi-Fi connection would disconnect after a while. I have already disabled their battery save option and the Wi-Fi connection in the Treo network settings to never timeout. I think I'll still keep this regardless since I don't see any problems with it installed and somewhat hope that it can help.
But it is quite annoying that the wireless connection would time out quite frequently so I have to disconnect, exit out of the wireless app, reconnect. Maybe a few times to notice it back.
I'm very thankful that you're great at coming up with lots of great apps!
I'm wondering if you are interested in coming up with a webcam app for the Treo 650? I'm one who is more than willing to pay for such a software. I paid for Clievideo's webcam app for the Zire 71 but would love to have that for my Treo.

Operamini does not improve with Fixwifi (you have to restart after auto disconnect), but Netfront does (no restart for Netfront). Not bad, as Netfront is my only browser able to download 1src freeware (this is the only reason I keep it... so actually for Pruss software only, thanks !).
I still prefer the rapidity of Operamini, despite a few resets, but so much faster than others, and with working cache.
I was estonished that when I first opened Fixwifi, the button was on ON already, while apparently not working (Netfront had to be restarted before I opened the prefs).

Alex,
do you think this will help with the off flush problem when wifi connection is up? (when you do a flush) I dont have that problem anymore, but i know some other people do, and was wondering if this might have an explanation and if this fix will also fix the problem?
just being curious :o

I strongly doubt it would help with it.

Weird issue here; wifi not responding on Operamini or Blazer, soft reset when trying to trigger through status bar.
After hard reset and restore to yesterday (thanks nvbackup), still resetting when trying to look for wifi network through status bar!
After launching Blazer and connecting through it (success, and relief!), it seems right now.
EDIT: Maybe I should add I have custom rom, which has "no" wifi when installed over palm wifi update (I had to restore palm wifi update after first installing custom rom to get wifi work)
EDIT2: Playing with Operamini this morning, I could reproduce the same. Now I think it has nothing to do with fixwiz, but is linked to operamini (corrupted db, incompatible soft which was on my TX before backing up ?). It must be a coincidence that I never had this bug before (operamini causing a disfonctionning of wifi).

which versions (of opera min and JVM) are you using? there are only certain combinations known to work on a TX (i.e., the newest does not run with JVM5.71).

FixWiFi solved my BeCrossword WiFi timeout = Crash problem.
I have a reasonably 'standard' Tx and have no problems with Blazer WiFi.
Thanks Alex
All the best, woz of oz

It's apparently been verified that FixWiFi is needed (and works) on the LifeDrive, too.

Thanks I was waiting to hear that.
I installed it right away no problems on my TX or Lifedrive. No additional problems or crashes, however I can't tell if it helps but, I figured it probably wouldn't hurt on the Lifedrive.
