100MB Encyclopedia for your CF - Wikipedia!

The world's largest free encyclopedia, Wikipedia, is now available in TomeRaider format and can be used on Pocket PC and Palm OS devices. Wikipedia is a project to create a complete and accurate open content encyclopedia. The English version measures 100 MB and contains 230 MB of text.

I have downloaded this and the entries are impressive. I have yet to find a topic missing. Topics are hyperlinked.

While I can enjoy this on my PC, I fail to convert this into a Palm PDB. Maybe it's just too big but it has been done for PocketPC. It's stated that the Palm version may be split in the next weeks for it to work.

Does not work - TomeRaider max size is 30mb - sorry

The problem is not caused by TomeRaider.
Palm does not allow files larger than 30 Mb.
It is always the same problem with those hardware designers, they design for the needs of today and forget (or do not expect ?) that their product may actually still be used tomorrow.

I received a mail from the developer of TomeRaider that version 3 would provide an inherent solution, scheduled for release in the fall.

Meanwhile I will provide an intermediate workaround in a week or two. The Wikipedia will be split in several TomeRaider files.

Of course this is not an optimal solution, as the majority of the hyperlinks will point to entries in another volume and require manually switching to the other file.

Still it is less of a burden than the large 25 volume paper encyclopediae, where hyperlinks have to be resolved by walking across the room and grabbing yet another volume from the shelf.

Actually it's my 512MSPro that I'm trying to fill ;P My CF (256 MB) is full already ever since I managed to get the driver. You know me...looking for excuses to get that 1 gig MSPro.

How true. Good to have you on board Erik. Welcome to Cliesource :) I for one will be waiting "impatiently" for the files ;-)
