A new PQA app called iSurf v1.3 (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?prodID=49063)is available at PalmGear (http://www.palmgear.com). While interesting in concept, please be aware of additional files contained in the .zip archive. The .zip file contains a Windows-based program that alters you Internet Explorer home page taking you to potentially unwanted sites. While this IS detailed in a "ReadMeFirst" file, I thought you should still be aware of this. My AVG Virus scanner flagged the .zip file as containing a virus, so I dumped it right then and there.

That said, the CONCEPT of using a PQA as a web proxy is very intriguing. It seems to be a very efficiant way of getting data into a wireless Palm OS device. Too bad that Palm OS 5 doean't support PQAs in the NX series. The interesting thing is that the PQA only weighs in at about 30k which makes sense considering that all the "work" is done on the back-end.

My only other concern is one of privacy by running your web queries through a PQA proxy. While it may be a non-issue, pairing this with the questionable "marketing" methods used by including potentially harmful files in a .zip file make me want to stay away.

I'm interested in your thoughts!

That is interesting and I have had a few complaints on this as many people do not read the readme file. I'm also showing that is has been disabled on our site, not sure why yet though...

Yeah somebody that includes a program to reset your homepage...distributing a file that runs your browsing through a proxy...sounds real questionable, I'm not sure I'd be using it, but it is a good idea for a company that tracks internet usage...hiding it under the guise of a proxy and all, so it's like you're 007 or something with wireless internet, and no one can track you...heh it sounds cool at first, but I don't think I'd touch that...

A normal Palm Query Application (PQA) requires some sort of user interaction before the clipping is served.

iSurf is a web browser. I have identifed PQA'a as used mostly with cellular phones, because of the low bandwidth requirements.

I have never used it, that I am aware of, so I don't think your missing much.

Maybe someone else can expand on it further :)

So it is some sort of WAP?
I tried iSilox but couldn't get it to work, so I am looking for something different. If it is low-bandwidth-needed-information-service this is exactly what I need!
