I just came accross this really cool website called
<link deleted>
it has a lot of cool freeware for palm but the only problem is all of this freeware is in a torrent file. So does anyone know any software I can use to open these torrent files on my pc.
thanks

Stolen software is not the same as freeware. I hope you get a nasty keylogging trojan that drains your bank account, fills your HDD with kiddy-porn then notifies the Police.

Yeah its probably not 'freeware' (i wont click on the link as I'm at uni and dont agree with that stuff) so personally avoid it like the plauge (which it really is IMO) but generally torrents can be used nicely for downloading large files due to the whole resume feature that doesnt work for normal http downloads (only ftp or p2p really) as quite a few open source files such as images of linux (/ gnu) distributions are quite regualry distributed by torrents now (but I still prefer FTP mirrors personally).
But seriously dont go there with Illegal torrents please its really lame.
Wow thanks big help!
It is really a big help. We take care of the members so we discourage links to warez and illegal file sharing sites here at 1SRC.

I've seen the hole site and all of it looks like freeware I havent seen a single upload that ive seen as a shareware before and for crying outload the site came up as one of the first hits on a google search if it was "illegal" as you say dont you think it would be shut down by now. And what makes you so sure it's illegal shareware anyway.

As the link has been removed by an Admin, I am quite confident that this is a warez site which has cracked registration codes for non-free applications.
If you want freeware, go to freewarepalm.com. If you want to know the prices of what you thought was freeware, go to Handango.com.

Actually I was looking at the site for a secound time and I found some dvd rips sorry guys but I just dont understand why these sites are still open when they come up as one of the first results of google. Actially i've never heard of these sites before I always thought this stuff was only possible with a p2p app.

BitTorrent is a p2p app.
Anyway, BitTorrent is overkill given how tiny Palm apps typically are.

Not all countries have strict copyright laws that prohibit redistribution nor all countries are willing to enforce them. So you only need to host in one of them.

a lot of torrent sites have illegal stuff, but they also have a lot of LEGAL things too, in order to use torrents you have to get bittorrent or some other program (theres a lot) that allow you to download the files from torrent files.
hope that helps!
To Clarify:
Bit Torrent is not illegal; it is a way of sharing large amounts of data between large amounts of people quickly.
Tracker sites are legal in some places, and not in others. They're basicly similar to Yahoo.com, but on a smaller scale, and they index data on BitTorrent instead of on the World Wide Web, like Yahoo.com does.
Because of the decentralized nature of torrents and the ease with which non-corrupted large data streams can be distributed over them, torrents are popular with people who like to share movies, audio collections, or other large collections of data (anything that comes on a DVD for example). The decentralized nature of the system also attracts people who don't care about copyright permissions, and who will share data without the permission of its creator.
With Bit Torrent, everyone who participates becomes a host for the data they are receiving, which spreads bandwidth costs between all users. This method is very useful for sharing Public Software (which includes open source software), and also for distributing video when the distributor wants to offload the costs of hosting it themselves.
Some Torrent sites are legitimate, some are not. To find out which you've stumbled across, google for some of the files you see listed, and see where else they show up.

without getting into whats legal and whats not, utorrent is very small pc client with small footprint. i dont see any reason not to import it to mobile platform.
for ppc and wm device, there is winmobile torrent (http://www.adisasta.com/wmTorrent.html) , but that wouldnt help your palm.
all in all, p2p is not very usefull on mobile platform, since it drains battery and just take too much time to d/l.
The original bittorrent source is 100% python. I seem to recall there being a PalmPython interpreter; this means that there already *is* a bittorrent client for PalmOS -- of course, I'm not sure if PalmPython comes with a network stack.

Is there anyway the authorities can track bit torrent clients down for example couldent they just put some sort of tracking software in one of the torents so when downloading its actually tracking you down.

Well, yeah, but they don't. They do, however, track colleges, and find them there.

So its pretty safe for you to use bittorrent in the privicey of your own home, even though its still not a risk I wish to take. Limewire by fare is the safest p2p app around.

I never use BitTorrents for anything illegal (mostly just large video files for projects). Limewire is safe though, nothing to worry about when using it (except that it's wrong :p)
