View Full Version : Original Clie packaging/ad? KB-11 pic?

Does anyone have the original materials that came with their Clie. I'm looking for the 1 page brochure that lists all the accessories for the NX series, which unfortunately I tossed out.
If anyone has it and could scan/post the side showing the full size keyboard, the KB-11, I'd appreciate it.
The reason I want it is because (on the strength of this paper) in October/November I went out and purchased a KB-11 to use with my NX70. At the same time I also purchased the GC-10 game controller. Sony sales & support had told me there would be OS5 drivers for both devices, and there soon were for the controller . . . but I just heard the latest from thinkoutside is that there won't be drivers until April.
While I will probably wait it out, I'm too late for a refund on the keyboard from CompUSA, so I wanted the option of going to Sony for $$ based on their misleading ad . . . a fools errand, I recognize, but I wanted to have the documentation in case I ever get bored/frustrated enough to go ahead.
Thanks in advance,

Lizard

wait.. now they're saying it's just a driver issue? not a hardware issue? I was told it was a hardware issue.

No, it's a hardware issue. Their (thinkoutside) latest is "Your current KB-11 Sony Compact Keyboard WILL NEVER work with the current Sony NX series PDA. "

Note that caps in above were theirs, not added by me

Hmm, but they won't tell you why(besides hardware?). Who is to say that's really true? In any case I'll look back through my papers. I save everything :)

Thanks n2ifp. I must admit that part of me hopes that this is just a mix-up with thinkoutside support (who in the past indicated to someone on this board that drivers would be available in late '02). However, their lastest message combined with some posts here about hardware incompatibility don't leave me very hopeful.
I'm not much more hopeful about getting anything from Sony, but maybe if all the KB-11 owners complain . . .. I know that there are a number of others on this board, who like me are new Sony PDA users, who purchased the keyboard based on "promises."
We'll see . . ..

Here it is. (First scan) The problem may be that on another sheet (second scan) entitled "List of optional accessories for PEG-NX70V and PEG-NX60 the PEGA-KB11 is NOT listed. I guess you could argue inconsistency.

I really don't understand why this has to be. When some drivers come out one day, someone will have to try them. If as one fellow says that it also needs a pull up resistor, then we'll have to look for that too and then publish a mod for all.

drws, sorry but I don't see the scan (retry?) I look forward to seeing this again :)

n2ifp; I'd like to believe this would be a simple fix, too. After all, the gamepad had a similar problem (constantly triggering hotsync) that was fixed with new drivers. I'm not sure whether this is a technical issue, or a business one given Sony's reluctance to talk, and TO's renewed liaison with Fellowes. But at the end of the day . . . my keyboard still doesn't work :(

I think it's misleading, the color brochure definitely shows the KB11 and the KB20. It could easily be misconstrued. Same thing with the 16mb of RAM with only 11mb available, this bugs everyone.

Yep, that's the other thing, the gamepad controller works.

n2, does that mean you still have the brochure? If drws1 can't post it, can you?
Thanks

Ideally a scan would be great, but how 'bout taking a picture of the relevant portion with your Clie and uploading that? Brings new meaning to "hoist by their own petard"! :)

Here you go.  I agree.  This flyer is very misleading.  They should definately only show the accessories that actually work with the model you purchased.

I just thought I attached a scanned copy of the flyer, but I don't see it in my previous message.  I attached the file under the Attach file: section....don't know how else to do it????

What I meant was what format(jpg for example) and where did you want it. Do I place it in the forum or sent to you in a private email. I have scanners, so that's not a problem. I think the smullis has sent it to you already, please let me know if you'll still want it and how.

If you saw the KB pictured as an available accessory for the NX on printed material that was inside the sealed box, you'd be hard pressed to demonstrate that you relied upon the printed material in your decision to purchase the NX.  Just something to think about when considering how pursuasive your "case" would be. Seems to me that you'd get the fastest and most satisfactory result from bringing a Small Claims action against Sony.  The sheer nuisance of the cases would have to cause Sony to make some accomodation to get rid of the case.  Getting jurisdiction over Sony in a Small Claims court might be your only problem, but that is going to depend upon the particular rules of the local courts where you live.

that's my $.02

so im rather lost.

is there a portable full size keyboard that works witn the NX series?

are people only having trouble with the older models of keyboards?

i may have missed this info in previous posts... but i dunno

No, there is not a portable full size keyboard available for the NX - according to an email posted above from ThinkOutside the Sony folding keyboard doesnt and never will work. If you want a keyboard you are playing a waiting game and it might be awhile. Maybe someone will make one and maybe they will skip right over the NX and make one for the NZ. I have a T series and there was quite a wait (seemed like it anyway) before I had a keyboard.

n2ifp; placing it in the forum would be fine, if that's possible - if not I can PM you an e-mail address to use. Thanks.
sralmas; we're in agreement - I have no problems with my NX70, and the keyboard wasn't part of my decision to purchase the PDA; but the flyer did drive my decision to purchase the keyboard

Cool. Thanks for that info.

BTW, I looked at the accessories insert that came with my NX. While it did come in the same box... it doesnt even really imply that a kewboard will work with the NX. The photos show other models being used, and the text says "Expand your Clie in exciting new directions."

Its unfortunate but I think they are just saving $$ by printing only one insert for all clie products.the only accessores displayed with an NX are the WL100, the speaker cradle, and the screen protectors.

I have no scanner and my camera wont take legible photos of that small *** text used in the insert or Id post what Ive got.

Did yours come with a different insert?

Thanks to all, and especially n2ifp who sent me some scans this AM. I sent an e-mail to Sony today asking them to confirm Thinkoutside's statements, and will take it from there.
I'll post if anything interesting happens .. .

I hate to say it but that poster lists Clie gear, not Clie gear for the NX, and it also shows other Clie devices. You are going to have a hard time arguing that, that means the pega-kb11 or 20 should work with the NX.
