View Full Version : Noah Pro and the Command Bar?

Once I run Noah Pro, thereafter an "N" appears in the command bar. Higlighting a word in a document and then tapping on that N brings up the definition of the highlighed word in Noah Pro. You can return directly to the place you were reading in the document.

Does this N persist for you after a soft reset? It doesn't for me, although I would like for it to do so. I added Noah Pro to my UnCache list, but that didn't help. And if I turn UnCache off altogether, the N is still missing in action after a reset until the Noah Pro itself has been run once. If I have missed something that would get this to work, I'd be grateful to know about it.

Is there a setting in NP that lets you make this persistent? It sounds like it isn't subscribing to the reset notification.

One alternative would be to DA-ize NP with accessorizer, and put THAT in the command bar using iconCMD or suchlike.

I had read that after a softreset, you need to go into noahpro once. then it will appear from that time afterwards.

After a reset, you have to go into Noah Pro once. The N then appears in the command bar until the next reset. Since I have my backup program do a soft reset each night, this is moderately inconvenient.

I'll try your suggestion to make it a DA and see what happens, but I expect it won't automatically display the word that is highlighted when it is activated. But I'll try and see. Edit: It doesn't go to a highlighted word as I expected. I suppose I could schedule Noah Pro to run after my soft reset that follows a backup. Edit 2: I see cyberdude suggested this while I was entering my first edit! And I thought of Event Launcher too. But I'd like to run it and exit back to the launcher. Not sure EL can do that.

For some reason Noah Pro doesn't reregister even if you put it in the UC list. I've stopped using noah, but when I was I had 2PlayMe setup to start noah every morning after a scheduled reset. You could use something like event launcher to set noah pro to activate after any reset.

Ten points for cyberdude :D

You could also use iconCMD to permanently place NoahPro on your command bar....well not necessarily "permanent" but it'll stay there until you take it off. I have my keyboard driver on the command bar so that I can quickly and easily toggle it on and off. It withstands a reset.

I don't just want Noah Pro on the command bar. I want the function that the N provides - automatically looking up a word highlighted in a memo or other document. It isn't going to work. I can tell. :p

Oh I see. Well, it sounds like CD's advice is sound in this regard. You could then create a macro for Noah Pro using myKbd, which you could use to launch NP after a reset...making it faster and less cumbersome to get your N back on the bar.

Nvbackup? Maybe Pruss wouldn't mind adding the ability to autorun an app following a backup.

(Note: I have no idea how difficult this might be.)

What I probably really need is for Noah Pro to register for reset notifications. But that won't be happening since the developer is done with it.

no.

i fiddled around with MacroPlay for the same reason, in my case, starting QuickNews right after hotsync and returning to my launcher, so that all those news would be ready imported when i would want to read them. but during trial time i couldn´t get macroplay to have an autostart macro doing everything i wanted it to do.

EL will also mess up the reset procedure if set to start something after reset, requiring you to make two resets in order to get back to normal state, in my case: have mykbd´s macros working (ILMM, are you listening?)
