Hello,

Paul Nesfield made an interesting and deep comparison of the mentioned backup packages. As there are a lot of backup gurus on this forum, I thought it might be an interesting topic.

For me personally the review was very important as it points to weak places we should improve. You will see in the next upgrade, which is already under work... (What I can reveal at this moment is that we shall think much more about novice users.)

Any comments are welcome.

Best regards,
Jan Slodicka
Resco

P.S. Although I provided some feedback to Paul, I don't have the feeling that this would have an impact on the final text. Finally the conclusions do not list any clear winner.

Might I ask where one could find this "deep comparison"? :)

Thanks Jano. Very interesting review.

I moved to Resco Backup when I got my Treo. I was using CardBackup on my T3. My only request is to allow some of the Scheduler options to be specified on a backup by backup basis. For example, I may want to turn my Treo off after some scheduled nackups, but not all of them. Likewise, I'd like the option to show the countdown dialog on some but not all. And so on.

I love Resco Backup and use it all the time. If I could be so bold as to add a few more to the wish list.

I'd like to be able to set the flushing and reset options per project and not globally. I backup through the day to catch small changes in my contacts, tasks, etc, db's and don't really want to flush or reset after these. However, I do a full backup (another project) every night and would love my device to have been flushed and reset for the start of my day.

Lastly, on the schedule options I'd like to be able to specify the back up time when it's scheduled to backup "every x hours". Right now I get backups that conflict with regular alarms. I useully set the alarm for a mnute or two after the hour to get around this, but in an ideal world I'd offset the backups instead. (8:00am, 12 noon and 4:00pm are busy times for me).

Regards and thanks for a great app.

Unless I'm missing something, you can set flushing and reset by project. The Advanced options in Schedule options is where you set them, and those are set based on the project in the upper right. I have Daily and Weekly projects that flush and reset, but my HotSync project does neither.

An "every x hours/minutes" backup would be great. Especially if it occurred like an alarm where the backup happens but leaves you in the application you were in. I can see using that a lot.

Thanks for the comments. We received quite a few requests for generalizing the scheduler. (I refer also to other channels.)

We shall definitely add these features:
- Power-off scheduling
- Every xxx hours will have start/end time

Introducing more features hits the limits we don't want to cross - the backward compatibility.

I did not analyze yet various flags - maybe there will be some change, too.

Hello,

just wanted to drop you a line that the Beta is here. Besides simpler GUI, improved restore etc. it has also some new scheduler features.

The version can be downloaded here (http://server:8081/palm/backup/downloads.asp)

Perhaps this is temporary, but the link isn't working for me. Says the server is not found.

Also cant get the link above to work, but you can find the file if you check out the download page at resco.net.

Janos: I really like what you have done with the new version. The GUI is wonderfull.

Just one comment (so far) the second time that I launched the new version it asked me for a reg code. (The first time was fine, just asked if I wanted to update the app on my card - I said yes) Anyway, I'll dig out my current code and see if it works - it does.

One other thing, any chance that support for the TX's full screen might be implemented in the future?
