This question has been bothering me. Anyone can convince me why I should stick on to 665C or should I change to the Zire 71?
Thanks!

Nothing much new except for ARM OS5, camera and SD slot.
You will have to dump your old MS then.
Trust me, Hi-rez+ is a thing that you cant miss, wait till they come up with the 320x480 version of T665C, then you should consider upgrading.
Hope this helps

I agree. What would you be getting really for all that money when you already have a great PDA? - a camera that's not very good? I personally am very happy with my 665 and it will take a better upgrade than that to get me to change. Just my opinion...

I don't think that the Zire 71 offers much over the T665C. There are other devices with better cameras and OS5. Trading the T665C's metal case for a plastic one isn't much of a deal of you carry in your pants pockets. It will take VG w/o the silly tiny keyboards to get me to even consider moving off my T665C.

What about moving from T665C to the NX series with VG and OS5? Any comments from anyone? =)

Try it in your pocket. I'll stick with my 665.

Thats the thing I can't get over. My T665 does everything I want it to do, with my 128 ms has plenty of memory, and goes in my front pocket with a Vaja leather case on it and I don't even know its there. Its truely hard to beat.

Actually, as a Zire71 owner, I think that that Zire71 is a logical upgrade path for a 665 owner. I'm starting to like it quite a bit, though it's going to take some time to get all my apps installed and have it humming along as NR70 was up until yesterday.
Coming from the NR to the Zire feels kind of funny (former High End device to a midrange). I don't miss the VG as much as I thought I would. To be honest the ONLY things that bug me about the 71 are:
1. No BT (which was my next great desire in an upgrade) and
2. it LOOKS but doesn't FEEL OR HANDLE like a toy. A bit unprofessional looking.
Grafitti2 takes a little getting used to.
I say go for it.
There is a similar thread in the SL/SJ forum you should read if you want a different perspective. Here's the link:

One of the most recent posts was highly critical of the Z71. But what I was really impressed with was this user explained what he considers his high priority needs in a PDA and specificly what and why he was not satisfied. Even if you decide the z71 is right for you, the post makes you aware of some aspects of the design that can affect battery life greatly.

Very nice discussion--thanks for pointing it out.

I've been thinking about an upgrade recently as well due to my 'technolust' - I've got a T665 too.
I've been eyeing the new T|C (which won't be out in Canada for a month - damned lag), and the Zire71. I have to agree with previous statements - it's not worth it. The differences of OS5 and a fast chip don't matter to me - i don't need the speed. Ditto for the camera - I carry my SLR (and three lenses) everywhere! An SD slot means that I lose my two 128mb memsticks, so the only real advantage for the Zire is that awesome screen.
That's not enough for me to switch. If the Zire71 had VG, then this would be a whole different story... ;)

When I tried out the Zire 71, I noticed that it does not have vibrate... a very useful function for in meetings. Also, the cost of switching over can be huge.
Finally, I have heard rumors that there will be a bigger and better T665 replacement. I am willing to give Sony a little time. If not, then I will just switch to the Garmin.
Basically, I would love to have the T665 body with a 400 MHz processor, 32 or 64 Meg's of RAM, 320x480 resolution screen, MS pro, longer and/or switchable battery, MP3 player and all of the accessories, etc. If this comes out, then I will remain a Sony fan. If not, then, Palm, here I come. :D

For the money you all have to admit the Zire71 is a pretty good value - just like all PDAs, sometimes there right for one person and sometimes there not. You also have to give Palm credit for non holding API information from developers like Sony.....thats bad for everybody.

Zire is $300 plus tax so abour $325... for $362 you can get an NX from Overstock. Check out the NX forum if you want details. MANY of us hopped on this deal and have not regretted it...

You make a very valid point about the API information. For PDA's with with only 16 Megs of RAM (not all of it accessible at that), this is critical. That is also why I spoke to Brayder Technologies to see if they will support the Zire 71 soon. They said that they are working on them now. Very cool.
I think that I can give up the vibrate for that... lol.
