I've been trying to get this stupid card to work so that I can access the internet for almost 2 weeks now. I can hotsynch wirelessly, but cannot access the internet. Can someone give me some suggestions?!?!

I've read just about every thread on this site and tried everythihng and can't get it yet to work. Keep getting "Network Timeout." Tried to use AvantGo and get "DNS error" everytime I attempt to snych to the server with my clie.

Email doesn't work either. Have tried Snapper and Clie Mail. Here's the error message "Cannot connect to server, check port number etc..." What's going on!!!

Here's some tech specs:

Computer:
Windows XP

Wireless Gateway:
Intel

PDA:
NX70V
Using Netfont 3.0
Have tried AvantGo (No luck!!)

Settings:
CSS Off
Power Save Off

When you say "wireless gateway", do you mean a router + wireless access point combo? Or do you mean a wireless access point only?
If you don't have a router, you need to set up your WinXP to share the internet connection.

How do you connect to the internet and who is your ISP? DSL, Cable, Dialup?

If you AOL DSL, forget it! The mail proggies work fine with standard pop3 accounts.

You may have to have all your settings set manually. Did you download the newer driver from Sony support? Forget the CD that came with the WL100 card.

In the clie, your gateway is the IP you use to access the router from your PC and the DNS is that from from your ISP. I do not know exactly how your setup though, so I have to guess.

As the other poster stated, you need to be a bit more specific than just wireless gateway.

If you can do a wireless Sync but can't surf it sounds like a DNS problem. Is your router using DHCP or have you assigned your IP settings manually?

Well, since someone else started the thread... I'm also having problems even after reading through most of the threads. I'm mostly interested in accessing the Web and not in wireless HotSync (though I guess that would be nice, too).

I have a Linksys router/access point with DHCP. There are already 2 laptops and a tower with wireless access. I added the MAC for the WiFI card to the MAC filter setting under wireless (so it's now the 4th in the list). I have Blazer and it says it's trying to connect but nothing happens (connecting/retrying and the Link light flashes on and off).

You shouldn't be very far !
Make sure you have
1) the right SSID
2) the right WEP KEY (if encrypting)
3) power save turned off
4) auto IP and auto DNS.
You should be set !

Double check that you have entered the right MAC address in your filter list (or even disable MAC filtering to get things going first)

The WIFI card should blink very quickly when it is sending/receiving data. How fast does your WIFI card blink ? Did you get the "Connected" screen when you try to connect ?

Router:

DHCP
Long Preamble
Network Shared
AP Mode = Access Point

In the Clie:

SSID = is case sensitive

WEP KEY = HEX key only, Hex entered manually, especially with Linksys! ! !
(found that on the Linksys site) No Paraphrase, use Hex Key settings from router.

Infrastructure Mode

Under Clie Advanced setup:

Clie = all settings manual, especially with Linksys! ! !
(Populate the IP, Subnet mask, Gateway, DNS, and PowerSaveMode unchecked)

This is for a straight Cable Modem Setup and using Windows XP.

There are many variations, depending on internet connection type (DSL, Cable, Dialup), your Internet Service Provider, and the desktop computer operating system. The Gateway and DNS addressing is connection type specific. Running 54G is a mixed bag and may not work with some units. Dialup's may require bridging or ICS.

Have you used Sony's network wizard and have you installed the latest WL100 driver?

The Sony driver is not as sophisticated as would be found on the laptop. The WL100 card otherwise is quite capable.

I'm also able to wirelessly synchronize but can't access the net. I have a wireless access point hooked up to a router. I can access the network in infrastructure or Adhoc mode. I have tried using the Gateway address reported by the router (along with its DNS addresses) and those reported by XP for the network card on the computer hooked to the router. No luck with either setup. BTW, I can surf the net w/my laptop through the wireless connection. I have DSL through Bellsouth.

I also want to know how I can hook up my laptop to my NX60 wirelessly. I can only synchonize when my clie goes through the network, not directly.

Any suggestions on either of these problems would be appreciated.

Manual IP setting for CLIE:

IP address should be in the same subnet as your XP and laptop.

Subnet mask is usually 255.255.255.0.

Gateway IP address should be your router's LAN side IP address.

Powersave - off.

Some people has reported problem using short preamble setting in your wireless access point, but that shouldn't matter because you can wireless hotsync already !

Adhoc mode would be direct, Clie to laptop, or what is known as peer to peer.

Worry about the internet connection first :).

Thanks to many here(Larry Windward and Brad Hayashi) and all, I am now the owner of a working (internet and hotsync) wifi card. The folks here are great at providing advice (and if I pay attention) that really smooths out the new stuff I have added to my pda. Thanks to everyone that posts positive tips/hints. Some are braver than others when it come to asking the "dumb" questions and get hammered (at times) for it. Just think... a couple of years ago I had a Palm III.

Well, I've checked my IP and DNS settings and still no luck in connecting to the internet. The little green light on my WIFI card blinks like crazy, the little icon in Netfront undulates up and down, and after about a minute I get the message "Network timeOut". This happens in infrastructure mode with auto and manual IP and DNS settings. Any ideas about what I can do next?

Oh, I hated those bouncing bars in Net Front.

If you enabled the WEP Key, is it in HEX?

Are the DNS addresses those of the ISP and your running PPPoE?

I had the wrong DNS numbers. I got the right ones from the router. Thanks to all for their assistance.

Guess I am just lucky...I DLed the memory manager, educated myself on here, plugged in the numbers (I am running 128mbit security) and worked FIRST try. The problem is NOT the card, it is the set-up...

I am running an gateway as follows:

Intel Wireless Gateway II Model 1210 Monterrey Bay??

Connected to ATT/Comcast Broadband

Operating System - Windows XP

Regarding Email, I have a comcast account. Keep getting the error "unable to connect - check server name or port number"

I thought if you set the IP Address and DNS address to auto, it would get those without you having to set?

I feel very dumb at this point in time. Any further suggestions?

How do you get your DNS/IP etc.. off the router??

(I have an RCA router)

You use the IP address of your router via the desktop PC's browser, the same as you would use to access the setup. With my Linksys, there is a status page that should give all that good info.

Example http://198.162.1.1

Yes, if we lived in a perfect world, all you would need is DHCP in the router and auto IP and DNS in the Clie. It does work with some. I spent days studying wireless networking on the web to learn enough to be dangerous. The driver in the Clie is anemic at best. In my setup here, the two Clies, my brother 's and mine had to be setup manually (static)in order for it to work.

Until you get things working, disable any WEP keys and remember that the SSID's are case sensitive.

BTW, leave PowerSaveMode unchecked, very important! ! !

This thread was a huge help. Thanks
