I am trying to figure out how to get my DVD's onto my palm in a 480x320 resolution. Anyone have any recommendations?
Yes; check out the Applications -> Video forum :)

I've had some good success, but my solution isn't terribly elegant, but produces a final product that works well.
Use DVDecrypt to rip the DVD. Make sure you setup to rip to a single file. The resulting file will be an unencrypted DVD file that few players can read.
I then use AutoGK to convert it to an AVI using the XVid codec and MP3 audio. That makes a full size file that plays well in WMP. I use this file for acrchive purposes and for playing on my Home Theater PC.
Finally, I process the file for playing on my TX. I use VirtualDub to crop the file to a 16:9 aspect and then scale down to 480x320. I adjust the compression of the XVid codec to about "9" which yeilds a file size of <200MB/Hour with excellent quality. You should be able compress it even more for smaller file sizes with good results. That more of a personal preference thing.
TCPMP will play the resulting file full screen at full frame rate with no porblems.
Curt.

To rip a DVD onto your hard drive, try Fair Use Wizard.
To manipulate its size, resolution, format etc. try Pocket DivX Encoder (select the "Palm Tungsten" option).
To transfer the file(s) to your SD card, use a card reader.
To watch them on your T|X, try TCPMP (The Core Pocket Movie Player).
Edit: Or do what cesibley wrote. It probably works just as well.)

I strictly use the "Fair Use Wizard" to turn a DVD into an AVI for my TX. I also have a 4 GB card, so I can handle the 700 MB AVI's.

Pocket Divx Encoder (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=PocketDivXEncoder_0.3.60&btnG=Google+Search) is the way to go. It converts the DVDS to high quality 300+MB files so you can watch them on your TX using TCMP. This way you can store several movies on your SD card.

Thats quite a waste of a 4gb I think I usualy have my movies around half of that (set Fair use wizard to smaller resolutions and bitrates)

after I use FAIRUSE to convert the video, how do I get the video on to my palm?

Use a card reader and just copy from your desktop to the card. Alternatively, use a Palm app called Card Export II. It turns your TX into a card reader. It costs money but does have a trial period.

Just FYI - There's also an app called CardReader which I prefer over CardExportII. I originally bought CEII but when CardReader came out I found it superior - ie: easier to launch, background mode, slightly faster transfers. Also it's less expensive than CEII and will run on any OS not just Windows. I run it on Linux and it works like a charm! Just my $0.02 :)

Yea, i have a card reader, but isn't there a certain path that the file needs to be in, so it can be located on the card? I have never used video before, so I don't have any previous video folders on my card.
Card Reader software lets you use your device just like you would use an SD Card reader or a USB ThumbDrive - you plug it into your PC, and the card shows up as a removeable device. All you have to do is copy the files to a directory of your choosing on the SD Card.
TCPMP, Kinoma Player and Multimedia Player all allow you to browse your SD card for video; it does not have to be stored in any specific location.
Using Palm Desktop instead of the Card Reader approach, external video automatically gets installed to SD/DCIM if I recall correctly; internal video goes into Builtin/Photos & Videos.

Using a external card reader device is much, much faster than CardReader, CardExportII, Palm Desktop transfers or, for that matter, DriveMode.
So if you have such a device or plan to purchase one anyway, use that. Otherwise, bring a book to read while you transfer your 250-750 MB movie.

ok, thanks for the help. I got TCPMP, and am watching the video. My first video I used Harry Potter, but the audio was WAY to quiet, and the video quality was slightly lower than expected. I guess I'm going to test everything with a music video until i get it right.

If I were to just strictly use the movies on my TX, it would be a massive waste of space. I also like to be able to pop the card out and play it full screen on a PC.

Cheers, I would like to do what you do but trying to fit higher quality music (which sounds good with dmirty's powervolume or the EU audio patch) really takes up quite a bit of space but getting another card is on the way :D
