View Full Version : Weird digitizer problem

I've started having a lot of problems taking notes on my NZ90. At first I thought my Grafitti was getting sloppy; but as I started watching what I was doing, I could see that my strokes in the letter part of the Grafitti area simply weren't registering. About 20% of the time, the start of the stroke doesn't register (there's no "trace" visible). How hard I press doesn't seem to matter.

The number part of the Grafitti area works fine-- the problem seems confined to the letter area.

I suspect a hardware problem but thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas before I called Sony...

I had the same problem. I took mine back and they switched it no worries. Mine was always in tablet mode. It would disappear in clamshell but would show up in tablet. Strangest thing I have ever seen. I would exchange it. Apparently there must be some type of a bug with the NZ as the manager I was dealing with told me that was the second one returned with the same problem.

Thanks for the reply. I think I've had mine too long to swap at Fry's, but I can drop back to my NX-70 while Sony takes care of it.

I too am having problems with the digitizer, so I'm kind of glad that I'm not alone on this one. Seems like this is some sort of a bad batch, or even design problem maybe. As previously stated, it's the alpha area of the digitizer, and it's as if it's just totally worn out. Press unusually hard and it seems to work fine, but how long will that last. I guess I got to send mine back too.

I'm having some problems as well, but not much.. Maybe 1 out of 100 strokes is not registered at all.. My NZ90 is pretty beat up(dropped it onto concrete and asphalt a couple of times), would sony really fix/give me a replacement if I were to send it in?

Ya know, I gotta believe that Sony would say the unit had been abused by the user. They give themselves a lot of latitude as to what units they'll accept for repair and which ones they won't. I out of 100 strokes is not bad.

My unit is inconsistent, some times it works fine and some times nearly EVERY stroke is garbled.

As some have stated, to be clear: this problem is GENERALLY in the alpha section of the VG area when in TABLET MODE ONLY.

There's a problem with the signal acceptance in that part of the input grid.

I have had my NZ90 for nearly 8 months and am having similar problems. In TABLET mode the graffiti area doesn't always respond to my scribed input. BUT if I open up and invert the screen it behaves quite OK in the writing area. From what I can deduce it is that the section most used has deteriorated over time. I bought this unit while in Australia (where I normally live) but currently I am working in England for a few years. When I bought the unit I was told that an International Warranty exists to which I did get my Sony MiniDV camera repaired here in Heathrow, BUT now I have found out that CLIE Europe have NO reciprocal warranty to Sony ASIA!
My thoughts were to see if I can purchase a replacement digitizer overlay and repair myself, BUT first I will be requesting that Sony Australia assist me in the cost. (AND I HAVE TO FIND A SITE THAT SELLS REPLACEMENT PARTS??? Any ideas anyone out their in UK/Euroland?)

But after reading this thread I am concerned that possibly this fault is software related and not a worn section of the digitizer…
Any thoughts/hints/suggestions on our plight please?????
