Today I tried to read an eBook with DocsToGo. While it was converting the book, I remembered my SJ30 still had only 700 Kb left, which was far less than the eBook itself. So, my SJ30 froze on me.
I tried a soft reset first, but my SJ30 wouldn't go further than the "Palm Powered" screen, without backlight. I tried a hard reset, and now the "Palm Powered" screen has backlight, but it freezes every time!
Yes, I have searched on the forum, no I haven't used Jacksprat/ or -flash, no I didn't mess in my ROM...
Who is able to help me? :-(
How do you do a hard reset?

Hold down the power button while poking the reset button on the back. Then let go of the power button after the Palm logo shows up on the screen (without the backlight).

I think you need to hold the up button before you release the power button, or else you'll just end up doing a soft reset again.

No, you hold the up button, push the reset, and release the up button when Palm shows up on the screen when you want to reboot the unit, but have it not start things like hacks. I don't remember what that kind of reset is called.
Oops. I did forget something about the hard reset: when you release the power button you will be asked if you want to erase everything. Pushing the up button answers "yes". Maybe that is what you are thinking of.
I think...it's after midnight. :)

There are a lot of confusion about the hard reset. That is why I ask the question to be sure you get it right. It fixes most of the problems if hard reset is done properly. For that reason Tanker Bob wrote a primer on various type of resets here (http://www.tankerbob.com/palm/).

Whooooo it's working again!! I'll tell you what I did, I hope other users who might encounter this problem will benefit of it.
First of all, I drained the batteries. Actually there wasn't much to do otherwise, as my SJ30 was stuck on the "Palm Powered" logo, with the backlight. This morning when I woke up, and discovered the batteries were completely drained, I plugged my Clie in, and performed a hard resert immediately. I never went into digitizer calibration with so much happiness.
How to do a hard reset?
1) Turn on your Clie
2) Poke a reset pin into the reset hole, push the reset button, and hold it there. The device is resetting itself now
3) Immediately after that, push the power button and hold it, while still pushing the reset button.
4) Release the reset button. When you see the "Palm Powered" logo on screen (without backlight), release the power button
5) Your device will ask you, on a screen without backlight, "Erase all data? Yes - press up button / No - press any other button"
6) Press the up button

Yes that's probably it.

Yes, that IS it...it tells you how to do it in the manual. I'm not sure I understand all the confusion about how to do a hard reset...soft vs hard is explained in the manual.

These things come with manuals!? :)
It's no fun sitting by yourself reading a manual...which isn't even a manual anymore, but rather just a disk file. It's much more interesting to ask your questions in places like this. We're a social creature. We learn from our peers and elders (and even all of those little rat-fink kids that know everything :) ).
The one I couldn't think of the other night is a warm reset (using the up button while poking the reset button...)

I completely agree that it's more fun to be social, try things on your own, go to others for advice. But when there are so many differing opinions on what a "hard" reset it, why not go to the definitive source? (for instance, there's another thread asking "how do I put mp3s on my Clie?" Well, there's a section of the manual called "How to put MP3s on your Clie!")
As for warm reset, yeah, I don't think that one's in there, actually.
