Hi -
About to receive my TG50. Been a long time Palm user... currently a dying IIIC.

My question: What's the best way to sync my current data base with the TG50?

Not sure the directions in the TG50 box cover this... but can I just sync it with my existing Palm IIIC software, and then perhaps change to the Sony version of the Palm OS desktop after that?

And should there be any compatability problems between syncing from a IIIC (using whatever previous generation Palm OS the IIIC uses) to the TG50 using the Palm OS5?

One other question: I have read conflicting accounts on various web sites about whether Documents to Go is actually included on the Sony software CD. Some say they found it there... others say they didn't.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Cheers, Bob

Bob,

The old Palm Desktop won't work. I tried it myself. Deinstall, then reinstall the new version. Don't forget to deinstall (i.e. remove) the old, because some have had trouble with installation over the old.

Don't forget to pull your backup folder out and keep it safe from the Deinstall.

Docs to go just ain't there. Look for yourself. If you have it, cool, but I think that was one or two people looking at a CD from another clie model.

Sneezy....

Thanks for the rapid reply. So what's the best way to get your Palm data (address book, to do, memos, into the Clie?

Use the IR function?

Bob,

You could do several things here. I have switched PDA's multiple times and found this to be, well, the most tedious part of upgrading.

One, you could get a program that will beam databases. I use beambox; install it on both palms, then beam the todo, address book, etc. databases from the old to the new. Immediately hotsync, then presto, all done.

Two, you could go to the backup folder before deinstall, pull out the databases, erase, install the new desktop, then click on the databases and sync. Presto.

Three, you could export each database before the deinstall, then import on new install. Presto.

Finally, you could beam each category from old to new palm, but I would think this would take a long time if you have multiple categories.

Have fun. Charge that battery before setup!

Sneezy...

Thanks for the reply... and all those options. On your suggestion of exporting each database (before the deinstall) and then importing them.... will it make any difference that I am going from a Palm IIIC (earlier OS obviously) to the Clie TG50 with OS5?

I imagine it won't make a difference... but I'd appreciate you (or others on this fine list) confirming that.

Thank you, Bob
