How does one install NetFront on a Mac? I have Missing Sync for Clie installed on my PowerBook G4, running Mac OS X 10.2.4 and Palm Desktop 4.0.
I have an NX-70V.
I double-click the NetFront .prc file on the CLIE CD-ROM that came with my unit and it installs and asks to reset the machine.....but then the program doesn't appear in the launcher and 2mb of RAM has vanished. The program appears when I choose DELETE or COPY in the launcher, but that's all. Even copied to a the memory stick, or INSTALLED on the memory stick it's invisible to the launcher (except to delete, etc.). No icon.
I've tried a zillion other browsers but they've all got problems. PocketLink's the best, but it has crashed so hard that deleting it from my machine and reinstalling STILL doesn't fix it - it crashes after their welcome screen goes away. I've deleted all the databases, even. I've tried Blazer, Web Pro, EudoraWeb, iPanel, Spider, PalmComm, Xiino.....PocketLink seems the best by far....but buggy. All of these have been latest versions, over the last week since I bought my Clie.
Help!

Hmm, I haven't had that problem -- I install most of my software via bluetooth, but I think I installed Netfront via the cradle once. If that doesn't work, couldn't you copy it to the memory stick and then move it to the Palm with clie files?

I think the problem may be that you have to have 6 MB's free in order for the install to complete. should work. Worked for me. L8

Yup, that's probably it. I have only 5mb free. Rats. I'm about to the point of just moving ALL apps to the memory stick. Too bad you can't categorize the silly thinks on the stick. Time to start looking at replacement launchers, I guess.
6MB to install, and no error message if you don't - it just sucks up 2MB of your RAM. Good lord, what a silly requirement on a PDA. Somebody needs to thwap NetFront's authors upside the head. This does not bode well for my liking the product. What in the WORLD would it need that much free space for duing an install? Hell, the 2MB size is bad enough.
If only PocketLink was more stable, I'd use it instead - it's very nice, fast, and supports the full NX70 display. And it's only 350K. As it stands though, PocketLink is rather unstable and it's no longer able to even RUN on my machine! It crashes immediately, despite my having trashed all files/databases related to (that I can determine, anyway). I'll have to find one of those preference editors to see if it left any cruft in the system prefs, etc. And contact the vendor to see if they have any other suggestions, I guess. Grrr.
Oh well, maybe I'll like netfront....but it'll have to be a LOT better than PocketLink to justify using over 6 times the RAM! I doubt that, somehow...

It doesn't actually use 6MB, it just requires it for installation (for cache, I imagine). Anyway, can anyone tell me how to set up a dir on my memory stick so that I can use NetFront to view "saved pages"
Thanks.

Place files in Palm/Programs/MSWeb/

NetFront will also see images (at least) that are stored in Palm/Images/

On my NX70V I found that I needed to free up more than 6 MB to get the browser to install (can't remember how much but it basically involved stripping everything back to the core Sony load). It drove me crazy until I tried this as there are no error messages just a stranded installer in RAM.
While I agree with nandaiyo that there are no truely good browsers, Netfront is as good as I have found. If you could only turn off the 'This pages is too wide' dialog …

Thanks for the info about more than 6MB. I stripped it back to about 6.1 but still nothing but got nothing but an installer taking up 2MB of RAM. Guess I'll go strip some more.
Sure wish PocketLink would work again for me. I worked fine for a while, even supporting the full 320x4080 screen, fast, lotsa features, small memory use. But now it won't even start up. Can't find any prefs or leftover databases. ARGH.
