Hi,
I would need the installer file from the CD...it should be a monolithic exe file!

Sorry for my slow response, but I was busy as hell!

Tam Hanna, you don't need the CD.

The Palm TX has VersaMail in Rom. And I believe you cannot erase it, so its there. IF you can't find it do a reset... Reset the TX and press the power key while holding the up button. This will make the TX to erase everything (like a factory restore) and it WILL decompress the OS and preinstalled software from the ROM. At the end you have your TX with the original software, no CD needed.

If you need the software for sync to your pc, you can download it free from Palm.

Good luck

The download version is 4.1.4 which does not contain TX USB drivers. This does not mean it will not work at all times, it just means that most likely USB communication will be failing (or flakey)

Well, I had no idea about USB problems with sync software. I got my TX without the CD, downloaded the software from Palm.com and sync with no problems. BUT, I don't use USB, so I cannot confirm any problems. I use Bluetooth sync. (with no problems)

Palm says:

"Was there a version 4.2? This download (4.1.4E) corrects a version number issue with the previous release dated August 2005 which, in some places, incorrectly stated it was version 4.2. The "About" screen has always displayed version 4.1.4. If you installed the version labeled 4.2, there is no need to install 4.1.4E."

I recently put 4.1.4 on because I didn't have my CD handy and wanted it to be recognized by the OS. I don't have any problems with USB.

For 2 days 4.1.4e was indeed labeled 4.2 until Palm pulled it down and released 4.1.4e.
The 'real' 4.2 is what comes with TX, Z22, 700p and 680.

Some folks (spanish) say they have iso images for TX LifeDrive and so. And they also say you one can ask them via PM to get them as a favor (no selling). If I had the cd I will gladly post an iso, but I sync via BT... no usb wires at all... good luck.

Based on my experience the 'real' 4.2 doesn't work with a TX unless you check the "Dowlonad latest settings from the Internet" which I imagine is what would happen with the 'real' 4.1.4.

The desktop and expense conduit (and extension module) are the only items that report their version as 4.2.0. Most notably the USB transport identifies itself in both versions as 6.0.1.

Hotsync manager is not to be confused with PalmDesktop.
Two different programs though they come together.
I never use PalmDesktop but I do use Hotsync manager for some parts (use Intellisync to sync to Lotus Notes).

Your remark strikes me as strange since PalmDesktop 4.2 is what is to be found on TX installation CD ...

Hotsync components, including the USBtransport DLL are, as far as I can tell, reporting the same versions (mostly 6.0.1 IIRC), but I don't have my file with the screen captures of the 4.1.4 versions.

As near as I can tell the only difference is in the IDs for the USB devices, so without the "download from Internet" option the TX is not recognized. But, I was only messing around to correct an Outlook issue so wasn't too worried about other things.

I had a problem with my CD and my Mac. I called Palm and they offered to send out a CD but they did tell me that the Palm website had most of the tools, including Palm Desktop for the Mac available online. Thing is, one had to click on the LifeDrive link, not the T|X.

I downloaded the material from the LifeDrive link (http://www.palm.com/us/support/lifedrive/) and everything worked.

I should mention that they now have Mac support on their T|X link, which is an improvement.

Tam Hanna is from Austria (see his 10q's with 1src on the front page) I'm from New Zealand.

Yeah was hoping you could still get the file before hte link expired as my upload is crap here in nz (128k is the average :S ) so it took me about 1h15mins to do it but it was worth it if it can work perfectely fine for Mr Tam Hanna and for a file like that I wont feel guilty or be braking any laws or anything!
