I used my Clie NX80V with my laptop computer. I gave the laptop to my daughter and removed everything associated with the clie. I then tried to install the clie software onto my desktop computer and I cannot HotSync the unit. I have been in email contact with Sony and they did not help at all. The computer does not recognize the Clie unit. I push the hotsync button on the cradle but nothing happens. My computer is a Gateway 550GR model running XP. I would appreciate any help from anyone out there in Clie land. I am baffled. Thanks in advance for your consideration in helping me solve this problem.

I no longer use my NX80, but I remeber you had to run intellisync lite and set this up. Did you go into the Hotsync manager and configure it to sync with Outlook or the Palm Desktop? If you are trying to sync with Outlook 2003, you'll need to apply the update patch for Intellisync to permit it to sync properly. I may still have that somewhere if you need it.

One thing to check first is that Local USB is checked in Hotsync setup. If you have the hotsync icon in the system tray (bottom right hand corner next ot the clock), click it, and see if Local USB is checked.

If that does not work, uninstall and reinstall the Palm desktop. Try again. If that fails, backup the data on your Clie to a memory stick and do a hard reset. Try a recovery hotsync with the desktop PC. That is about all I can think of at this time.

Thank you both for your quick reply. Let me give you some addional information. First, when I instaslled the software I selected "synchronize with Palm desktop for Clie" I do not use MS Outlook or Lotus Orangizer.so the Intellisync Lite is not installed. When I used the Laptop I did not use Intellisync Lite. So that is probablly not the problem. The reason I only usethe HotSync is to backup my data to the computer and to add applications to the clie, so that is why I only install synchronize with Palm Desktop for Clie. I have also made sure the USB is checked in the HotSync. I have not tried a hard reset yet. Can you please explainhow to do a recovery hotsync with the desktop PC. When I emailed Sony (numerous times) they indicated in one email that the clie device drivers are not recognized on a third party computer with OS XP that has an Intel 82801 chipset. My desktop computer does have this chipset, I do not know if my laptop had it. Sony gave me procedures as a workaround to eliminate tjis issue, but that did not work at all, Also, I installed Palm Destop 4.1 software as suggested by Sony. Also, I checked to make sure all my USB ports are working in the devices manager. Any other suggestions would be a big help. Once again Thanks to all.

A recovery hotsync is the first hotsync after a hard reset which puts all the information in your PC from the last hotsync back to your handheld. My comment about doing a hard reset was to eliminate any problems or corruptions that may exist on the NX. If the NX was able to hotsync after a hard reset, I would then guess there was a software problem on the handheld.

I was unaware that the Clie would not be recognized by a PC with an Intel 82801 chipset. The only way to know for sure is to test the NX on another PC. If it works, Sony identified the problem.

I had a chance to follow the suggestions from KiteandCamera. I reinstalled the clie software and I did a Hard reset to the unit; however, nothing happend again. When I put the clie into the cradle and push the hotsync button the computer still does not recognize the clie, it does nothing. I have another desktop computer at home and unfortunately it has the Intel 82801 chipset in that unit too. I do not know if I will find a desktop that does not have that chipset and if the person would let me try and install the clie software. Since I have tried all the suggestions (and I am greatful for them) I have another idea to put out to all clie land. Can I download applications and data such as ebooks to the memory stick and then transfer those applications to the clie unit from the memory stick? Once again for those who respond to my plea for help I thank you in advance.

If you use a card reader connected to your PC, you can move files to a memory stick, put it in your NX, and access the files. The lack of hotsync, though troubling, is certainly not the end of the world. I would also recommend that you get a thrid-party backup app or use the built-in MS Backup application to keep current copy of your handheld configuration in the event of a 'disaster'.

Once again, THANK YOU for your quick repy. I am about to give up on the hotsync issue and use a memory stick as you suggested. I do use it now for backup of my files and data at least once a week. I will use it now to load applications and data into the NX80 unit, too. If I have a chance I will try to email Intel and ask them about the 802801 chipset that Sony had mentioned in one of their emails to me. This hotsync issue has baffled me and I hate to give up not finding a solution to this problem. When I can some find some free time I will get try to get back to this issue to try and resolve it. But until then, once again, a big THANK YOU! Your help is appreciated. One more thing, if any others in clie land have any other suggestions I am always open to hear about them. Many thanks.
