View Full Version : Replacing Life... DeadDrive HardDisk

Can anyone point me in the right direction for finding a description/information about replacing a 'dead' hard drive in my LifeDrive. About 18 months of (light) use came to an end on Sunday morning when an unexpected bump took the Life (and Drive) out of my PDA... I guess it's more of a DeadStop now.
The case screws - Are they T4, 5 or 6 Torq heads?
I'd appreciate any help you could offer.
All the best
Donald

Hi Donald
Reading the this forum here helped me a lot.

and also this Wikihowto

Welcome to 1SRC, Daniel H Brown.
I agree with jcsheng505, those two links are the best resource. I have yet to replace my drive... just waiting for the 4GB CFs prices to go down a bit more ;)

Joel, I see what you mean about the price - I checked out the Kingston 4GB Elite Pro 45x on Ebay - over 50 quid!!! I think I'll try to to do the CF conversion as per the links supplied by jcsheng505. I don't have that much experience with linux and configuring/formatting drives/CFcards but it looks do'able. Once I get all the gear together, I'll write to let you know how it goes!!!

Brandon-wan, Good luck, please do let me/us know how the conversion goes. I'll be making plans for conversion to do it next weekend.

As far as I can tell you have to be like Dr Frankinstein and resurrect the dead hard drive. I thought most folks did the HDD transfer before their Life drive died.....

Hello,
I am unlucky guy with dead LD (hard drive broken). I decided to bring it to live using LD2.0 update method. The problem is I am not linux guy. I managed to get Zenwalk Installed and get unshield, subversion in place. Now I ma waiting to get CF card and get those files partictitions flashed. I decided to get Sandisk Exterme III - is it kosher?
Peter: Thanks for instruction! UR great!
