View Full Version : Hard Reset Nullifies Reg Code??

I had to do a hard reset and I had a backup on my CF card. So I installed the CF driver from the MS and it asked me to register, no problem I still have my reg code e-mail. When I tried to enter it it said reg code invalid, or something like that. Anyway, I tried reentering for about 45 minutes going letter by letter, counting letters to make sure I had them right and it always said reg code invalid. The hotsync id and Eruware ID were the same. Anyway I drove to work and used the CF reader there to transfer the backup to the the MS and got it all back.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone else encountered this problem.

I never experienced that problem.  When I restored from a CF backup, I didn't have to re-register anything.  It all came back just the way it was during the backup.

Ok just wondering.

To restore backup from CF (after a hard reset), you'll have to at least reinstall CFDriver from scratch and from what Alistar said, it can't be done unless you're restoring everything from MS first?

Yea, I tried to just copy the CF driver from my MS after a hard reset and it asked for my reg code, I tried to enter it again and it would never accept it. I had the right case and everything, but it just would not accept it.

So how did you get CFDriver reinstalled?

I wonder if this is something that we should ask Eruware? To be able to install only once is ridiculous.

I keep the CF driver on the MS, so I just copied it back to ram. When that didn't work I eventually got my backup off the CF onto the MS (through the CF reader at work) I restored the whole device from that backup off the MS, which gave me back the CF driver already registered.

Nice work around, Alistar. :D
So another reminder for us all to regulary do a Backup.
I've a habbit of performing a backup everytime I upgrade a patch or driver, (personally) also like to have it backup in MS becoz after hard reset, the regular MS is the only thing that is recognised by the NX. (I've to unmount the CF as to make sure the backup goes into the MS & not the Compact Flash card.)

Alistar had a full backup but it was stored inside the Compact Flash Card. But since the CF driver didn't work with the reg key after the hard reset, he used a CF Card Reader and copied the exact backup to the MS thereby enabling a full recovery.

seems Alistar had beat me to the answer :D
guess I'm slow at my typing.... LOL
So is this "failure to re-enter the serial key after hard-reset" like an extra security for us registered users? or just simply needs a bug fix. :D Think I'm going nuts already with the WAREZ thing, I've already left that column alone. It's never ending.

Thanks for all the info. Since we paid for the CFDriver and the reg code we received was generated for our own EruwareID, which I believe was generated from unique Clie hw, shouldn't we be entitled to reinstall it on the same Clie (and as many time as we need or want to)?

I already bought my CFDriver and it works fine but I haven't had the need to reinstall it from a hard reset yet...

Well, being a registered user, I'm sure we can always refer back to Eruware for help with this ID & reg code matter. But remember to do at least a 1 time backup with the working CFDriver, so that in any case it might just come in handy. :D

thanks Alistar, so we can be much more informative when it comes to dealing with unexpected situations, such as this specific case you've had with the hard-reset.

I am still deciding on the driver purchase (I don't do anything before lots of consideration) and I think I read in another thread that in the instructions sent with the reg code they (Eruware) instruct to do a backup. Perhaps I am wrong on this since I haven't purchased it yet? Can anyone verify?

About the reg-code. You have to hotsync before many reg-codes work, as they are not only bound to your device-id (persists even after hardreset),but also your HS name, (you can enter that one manually) or your HS id (gets calculated on HS only)

It's always good advice to backup your unit, Murphy's Law always has to be factored in :D!

I had tried hotsyncing, so that my hotsync name was the same, in the hotsync app it showed my hotsync name in the upper right.

Exact same thing happened to me a few days ago. I had reinstalled from the stick and for some reason I could noy get the reg. # to work. I then reinstalled the driver from the pc and it worked= with re-entering the reg #.

If you have a hard reset, you will either need to do a full restore from a backup on the MS, or hotsync, in order to get your hotsync name back. It won't work right after a hard reset because your hotsync name has been wiped out.

Yea, same thing with jackflash and others like it, but some reason after a full restore from the stick it wouldn't take.

I hard reset last night. Mostly because I couldn't get movies to play from the CF slot. But it was definately my fault and nothing to do with the soft or hardware. I backed everything to my CPU and reformatted all my cards. The next hot sync took care or reinstalling the driver. I did not have to re register either.

unfortunately I was messing with some appz with my NX today & since I knew the possibility of conflicts, luckily I did a backup just right before my friend beamed the appz to my NX, ended up that I had to hard-reset 2 times! (becoz tried to install 2 different appz, his was a different model so...) I just had the full recovery backup stored in the MS and it was as if nothing happened! he he... :D
skipped the part of the Hotsync.

I burned my CF driver and my registration on a cd, in case I ever have to reinstall, just wanted to be on the safe side, after all, it took a long time to get through all those pages to buy the driver

so did you have it on a tiny little credit card size CD-ROM? also made a flash copy of the backup of the NX? :D

had to do that many times when i messed up the card format...i formatted it in fat 32) i kept the reg codes on paper (remember that?) and simply reinstalled the driver and entered the code...no problem

That's good advice for anyone installing any app. Hard resets have been known to occur on their own at anytime. Thank goodness for having backups. Additionally there is always the user who is like a bull in a china shop...
