So this new Access Linux Platform just hit 1.0 in the development cycle. TX resolution is supported... Will an upgrade be possible?

Double no. Don't expect to see any Palm device with ALP on it. Ever.

Will an upgrade be possible?Yes.
Will such every be made available?
My money would be on, no.
In resent years Palm has not had a history of making major OS upgrades available. If one wants the latest OS, one needs to get the latest device. Also, most indications are that Palm is not going to use ALP on any of it's devices, but instead use it's own OS.

Have you tried Linux on your T|X yet? I have played with it a bit using alpha code (net ready for prime time). Good starting point is http://mem0.com/static.php?page=install-tutorial and http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/PalmTX for a good reference.
Looks like it is not too active. It does work, but my old eyes find the fonts too small. The performance is not that great either.

Ever looked at hackndev? I have successfully booted two versions of Linux on my TX. Opie, and one other I dont remember the name of.

Yeah hackndev.com is where I did it for my z72 and if you post in the tx thread (cant remember it just search for it in their forums) if you have any problems or want to find out the latest version.
Chances are jesusfreak01 that you used familliar which is the original linux but less likely angstrom which is the newest of the distros so to speak!

yes, it was familiar. I knew "familiar" showed up on boot, but I wasnt sure if that was the name of the distro.

I tried Opie Linux on my TX, looks good, better space (not those big fonts) but it crashed very often, no bluetooth and no wifi, so I'll wait for it to be complete. It has full PIM,. nice work those guys are doing.

Has anybody tried out the _new_ ACCESS Linux Platform (ALP) from here:
http://www.access-company.com/products/platforms/linux/alp.html ?
Also see this post here:
http://www.downloadsquad.com/2008/10/24/access-linux-platform-3-0-released-yes-its-another-mobile-phon/
I have a Palm TX, so I am especially interested whether ALP 3.0 works on these devices.

I have just recently placed Ubuntu on my laptop, and I am slowly getting used to Linux. Now, I am thinking of putting it on my palm (mainly just because I can), but I am wondering if there are really any benefits? Do I have to know command line? Am I able to run all of my programs from palm os from linux? Finally, what is the best, beginner, linux os to put on my palm? I have looked around the forums a little bit, but haven't really found a straight answer.
Thanks!!!

Doubt it will work on the TX, review RAM, ROM and cache requirements.

sorry, did not mean to say that I wanted to put Ubuntu on my t/x. I was asking about Linux in general.
