View Full Version : ShowBattery 1.00

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
ShowBattery replaces the attention icon (exclamation mark)
in the status bar of a T3/T5/TX or LifeDrive PDA with a
battery icon. But when there is an alert, the attention
icon comes back, so no functionality is lost.
http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1654
To use, install ShowBattery.prc. ShowBattery is
a preference panel, so it will show up in your Palm's
Prefs application.
ShowBattery does not update immediately, so you may need
to wait up to about half a minute for an update of the
battery status.
If you have mySkin 2.42+ or myKbd 1.42+, you can
merge battery skins onto regular skins. BatterySkin.prc
is the battery skin that is built-into ShowBattery,
and mySkin/myKbd can recolorize it.
If you want to compile this yourself, you need the
February 7, 2007 or later cvs version of pilrc from
www.sf.net/projects/pilrc . Earlier versions do not
work. You'll have to compile pilrc yourself.

Alex,
Thanks for the release version. One minor issue: the "done" button does not return to the main prefs menu. Otherwise looking good. Thanks!
Excellent! And kudos on making it a prefpane :) I hope more people follow your lead.

I have had had 0.05a on my production TX because I wanted it to reactivate on reset and have been testing all other versions on my testing TX. Now they are both at the same version again.
Other than the "Done" button issue, which I can currently live with of course, so far no problems.
And I agree with _Em, Prefs are the way to go for things such as this once they are stable.

This is great to see ShowBattery reach the release stage. I've had fun with the earlier stages too.
I note, as have others, that the Done button does nothing. But for the number of times I'll actually need to access it, not much of a deal.
Is there a place to get mySkin 2.42+ yet?

Thank you Alex for this great app!
I uploaded a version of V 1.00 with T3 style graphics:
http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1655
It incorporates graphics by beemgee's former mod of V 0.05, but I have inverted the colors. So here the energy is white and the empty background is blue.
Hope this is useful.

to change the icon you also need to install one or both of the BatterySkin.prc files. There's one included in the ShowBattery.zip and there's another couple in the Freeware section - you'll have to install one and go rename it in mySkin, then install the other if you want both because they have the same file name. You would then select the skin from the list -> select merge in the menu -> select statusbars -> Voila!

It is necessary to remove this icon when installing a skin, due to a bug in the OS. If the icon is important to you, then you can use mySkin/myKbd to load a skin (any skin will do), and then turn ShowBattery on over the top of it.

I uploaded four battery skins (http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1656) to use with ShowBattery. One is a modification of Church Punk's Mac graphics. For the others I started with the graphics in the application itself and redid the colors. For the latter, besides what you see in the attached image, the lightning bolt for charging is yellow. Three of the skins use blue tones that I intend to complement Velo's Grayhide skin. The fourth is red and is intended to complement Blackhide.
I've uploaded only BatterySkin.prc files, which will need to be merged into whatever DIA skin you are using.
Hope some of you enjoy them.

I think the energy should be checkered. Otherwise the icon is too bright. I tested it, but it looked not good checkered. So I tested several other modifications for the T3 statbar, mainly with thinner batteries. There are also two versions with more decent light blue energy. I personally prefer #2.

I'm not sure why, but I've really enjoyed following the development of this application. Perhaps it's that the small things are really important in affecting the experience. But I've also learned a lot about how my Palm works from the progress. Anyway, thanks for letting us in early!
Here's one for you:
I charge my TX with the charging cable at home, and with the USB cable at work. When at home, the charging icon comes on. However, ever since I installed this, it doesn't come on when plugged into USB only. However, the battery level moves on up still as the device charges. The charging battery doesn't come on in the launcher, either.

I've been fiddling some more, as seems to be my habit, and tomorrow I'll add two more blue skins to my collection. They reverse the highlight that makes the battery seem dimensional, so the highlight is brighter than the background, not darker as in the current versions. This makes the light look like it's coming from the opposite side and matches the direction that Velo simulates in Grayhide. The differences are subtle, so you can decide whether I'm nuts for trying it out or not.

I have an idea for a graphic: Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure type health display with the crocodile and Pitfall Harry, and if the device is on the charger, then it would display the golden 1up item. Dunno if this is feasable with a small amount of space though.
Edit: Other ideas of mine:
Smile - Frown emoticon with sunglasses as charging.
Rising - Seting sun, dunno about charging (maybe rays added to sun?)
Meadow - Desert, with rain as charging
Wilting - "Unwilting" Flower, with a watering can as charging

I doubt the memory used for the battery icons is a big deal. It's about 20K in total, and I am careful to ensure that each write replaces the previous resource so as not to invalidate any handles.
My one source of concern is the SysAppLaunch() call to send a fake rotate notification to the attention plugin to force it to redraw the icon after I switch it. The call is made from an armlet. Originally it was made from 68K, but at that time I had T3 crashes, and this may have been responsible (there may have been problems with structure translation, say).
The other way to do the refresh is to draw the icon directly on the sbar window. But then one has to get the coordinates right, and they're different on different devices. Another difficulty is that I don't know how to tell when the attention icon is in active mode and when it's not.

I don't think I want a wholesale reconstruction of the status bar, which I gather is what Dmitry is working on. His proof of concept also uses way more real estate for the battery icon than I'd like. But perhaps all of this will be possible to customize in his final app.

I'm totally confused on how to change the battery image.
When I had 1.00, I was able to change to the Mac one.
But now I just can't seem to change it, no matter what I do. I've loaded several images, deleted all but one (tried them all), renamed each one to batteryskin. No matter what I do, I only get the same initial default skin.
I do have Mykbd which I use just to get the ATOMIC keyboard, and I thought I followed the instructions to merge, but I'm not having any luck at all.
FerdFerd
02-21-2007, 09:13 PM
In myKbd, highlight the file name for the skin you like. (There is no need to rename it.) Then go to the Merge menu and tap Whole skin. That's the way it works for me, and believe me, I've merged lots of battery skins!
My usual forgetfulness when merges fail has me neglecting to highlight the file name before starting the merge. Could that be the deal for you?
MikeB
02-21-2007, 09:18 PM
When you say skin, you mean like ATOMIK keyboard right? That's what I have loaded.
Then I highlight BatterySkinMacBlue and Merge, Whole Skin, and nothing changes.
I've tried with Showbattery On and Off. No change either.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
FerdFerd
02-21-2007, 09:21 PM
I use mySkin, not myKbd, so I don't have the same main skin loaded. But say I have Velo's Grayhide DIA skin loaded. I then highlight the name of the battery skin file. Then on to the Merge menu. No?
If ShowBattery is off, the battery skin merges, but the status bar won't show the new graphics until ShowBattery is turned on. Turn SB back off, and the battery graphic disappears again, to be replaced by the normal attention manager exclamation mark.

MikeB
02-21-2007, 09:27 PM
I can see how that would work with mySkin since that has the statusbar icon changes. However I use myKbd only for changing the keyboard, not any of the statusbar icons.
When I got it to work to change to the Mac icon when I first loaded 1.00, I didn't do anything with myKbd, so that's why I'm confused. I thought I just deleted the original batteryskin file and renamed the batteryskinmacblue to batteryskin. That seemed to work. However I can't make that work anymore, for whatever reason.
FerdFerd
02-21-2007, 09:33 PM
Well, I've reproduced the crash and soft reset with the OffFlush-TCPMP-ShowBattery combination. I set OffFlush to flush on power off and at a threshold that would guarantee a flush at the next power-off. Then I started TCPMP and began to play an mp3 file. While the file was playing, I pressed the power button to turn the unit off. Some minutes later when I turned it back on, the unit crashed and reset.
I don't know how often it will happen, but I now see the issue.
I'm still hanging on to ShowBattery, hoping there isn't another conflict that I would care more about. I'll be watchful.
FerdFerd
02-21-2007, 09:34 PM
have you upgraded MyKbd to the latestone, the one that has support for the battery skins?
NekkuttaGood point, which I should have remembered too.
Another relevant point is that Church Punk did put out a verison of ShowBattery with his graphics incorporated directly into ShowBattery. If you were using that and then updated to the latest version of ShowBattery, you would have lost the Mac graphics. This is a reason for loading BatterySkin files as overlays. Then updates of the main application (if any more ever come) wouldn't result in changing the graphics.

I was using ogg files, about an hour long each. I'd play a file for about half an hour, then turn off the TX, and I think OffFlush would kick in. Then some time later, maybe 15 minutes later, I'd get a reset when turning on.
I suspect that the amount of time one needs to wait is sufficient for a change in battery state. But I could be wrong.

I've been accelerating battery state change by turning off while plugged in and it does cause a delay in some situations but I don't think that they're related to ShowBattery.
I will have to encode some files to ogg to see if perhaps that's the culprit, as I don't even have the codec loaded in TCPMP.

EDIT: I can't get the whole image to show up correctly, however you still can see in the image what's going on. Look at the corner white "tick" marks in the top left & right. These also appear on the bottom corners in the whole image.

Look at the corner white "tick" marks in the top left & right. These also appear on the bottom corners in the whole image. The corner ticks are in Church Punk's graphics. Because his skin uses a white background, you don't see them. They disappear on the gray background too in my attached images with the files in the Freeware section. But if you put it on a dark background, you'll see them.
The only thing I did to his graphics was change the color of the internal part of the graphic that shows the fractional charge. I didn't modify anything else at all.
If you want to start editing graphics, CP posted the name of the tool (PFCD, link (http://festus440.happypalm.com/pfcd.php)) to extract the graphics and recompile them after modification. It works pretty easily, but do be aware that you will need to change roughly 50 different graphics files to make the set work as you wish.
It's actually kind of fun, in a perverse sort of way. But I'm using one of the other blue ones I made, so my own level of motivation to further edit the Mac version is pretty low.
Edit to add: Here is another option. I have a DIA skin on my TX called Standard Clean Blue DIA. It uses white instead of blue as its status bar background. If that appeals to you, it wouldn't require altering the battery skin (I checked). Unfortunately, a quick search hasn't reminded me of where I found that skin. If it turns up, I'll post back. Edit again: No luck. Sorry.
Edit 3: Well, this (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&PartnerREF=&siteid=1&prodID=53480) is close. It's a T3 skin at Palmgear. You'll need to use Pruss's FixUpSkin on it. Be sure you do this before you put it on a TX! That converter comes with mySkin or myKbd. Then load the skin, and use mySkin's ability to colorize individual elements to recolor the WiFi icon. At that point I'd save it. Then merge the battery skin into it.

You can see the approach in the image in my last post. That works for me with jpegs. I'll try png next time.

Alex, what do you think about Resco Locker? And would locking ShowBattery solve this? Sounds off hand like it might.I know that for an intermittent issue, the absence of evidence isn't the same as evidence of absence, but I did lock ShowBattery with Resco Locker and I've tried several times to repeat the conflict with TCPMP-OffFlush. If the blue skin with the white status bar background interests you, see Edit 3 in my post above, #83 in this thread. I found what I must have started with at Palmgear, and it is free. If someone who has the knowledge and authority to say so says it's OK, I'm willing to post it with the blue version of the WiFi icon (which I must have recolorized at some point) here in the Freeware section. It is freeware, but there is nothing in the distribution that says it's in the public domain or talks about redistribution.

If someone really wants percent charge in ShowBattery, if the right font could be found, it wouldn't be much of a challenge to make a battery skin that shows percent charge in lieu of a graphic indication of the same. I don't think there is room to sensibly try to do both. There are 16 battery images for each of the three orientations (plus one for each orientation to show that the unit is charging). Each image therefore is 6.66 more than the previous one. You'd need to round to the nearest integer and probably omit the percent sign. The series I'd use would be 0, 7, 13, 20, 27, 33, 40, 47, 53, 60, 67, 73, 80, 87, 93, 100.
I tried putting 100 on one battery image, but I couldn't find a font that looked good. One might have to make the numbers by hand, one pixel at a time.

pokeypda, to my way of thinking, yours is a better way to communicate different charge states than numbers. However, I did notice that ShowBattery doesn't refresh while in TCPMP though. I hardly use TCPMP (I don't really watch many videos) & PocketTunes is my primary music player.
Here's a thought... I remember your adding the function to myKbd macros to switch skins on the fly - Have you tried just loading a regular statbar skin just prior to starting TCPMP, then you could use myKbd macro to switch back after you're done.
Sorry you're too scared to use this app - but I totally understand. If it was responsible for crashing an app that I used often - I'd quit using it too. Lucky for me - it doesn't :) Thanks for writing it!! It's really a very useful little app!

If you already have ShowBattery installed with skins, just install MetaView's version over the original as you normally would install any program (ie: hotsync or from SD card). There are 2 prc files choose the one right for your machine.
If you don't already have ShowBattery install, again just choose the correct prc for your machine and then Show Battery will appear in your preference panel. Go there to activate. Then if you have mySkin or myKbd for skinning your statusbar you can find some awesome battery skins here on 1src in the freeware section. You would use "Merge Statusbar" option to get the battery skin of your choosing to show up in your current choice of statusbar skin.

I have found a couple of strange screen behaviors with this newest "% pop-up" of ShowBattery. I'm attaching a screen shot of one that appeared when I was calibrating my digitizer in myKbd - notice the black box at the bottom of the screen where the battery for the status bar usually is found. The other appears when playing the game Quest - anytime I tap on the upper part of the screen in Quest a small red square shows in the middle of the screen. Quest is an exception to most applications because it takes over the entire screen while playing (no status bars are seen). As soon as I revert back to the original ShowBattery, both problems go away. It appears to be an issue only with applications that show full screen (without statusbar)
I still don't get any crashes though :) I find I do like the little pop-up a lot better than using the clock to get battery percentage because the pop-up doesn't require a second tap to go away and it's much less obtrusive.

I've been away for a couple of days. I see the MetaView revision shows that is is a modification of ShowBattery 1.03. The latest unmodified version here says it's v1.02. Where is 1.03 living? Is it hidden inside the zip I'll get if I download 1.02 in the Freeware section here?
A report on the modified version: If I run an Accessorizer DA and return to the underlying application and then tap and hold the battery icon, I get a blank oblong popup window, rather than the square one with the percent charge displayed.

Incidentally, the oblong blank popup window I described in my last post returns to normal once another application is run. The window seems to be as wide as the normal one would be, but flattened because the percent is not displayed.

Ok MetaView, the latest version fixes the strange screen behavior that was caused by the debug. However, I am now having similar problems to CyberDude - with the latest version installed I loose ALL of my macros that are made by myKbd. This includes both keyboard and hard button macros. The rest of the keyboard & buttons still work, only those assigned to macros are broken.
I do not have any crashes though. So that's good! :-D

I'm not a programmer, but I am reasonably confident that the bmp images are there as part of providing the source code. You'd need them to compile your own version. They are embedded in the executable application.

Random thoughts: Did you go to the preferences panel and turn ShowBattery on? If you do that, you should see the default battery icon. If you are looking to add another skin than the built-in one, you need to merge the appropriate BatterySkin.prc into your myKbd skin. Hope none of that is insulting. If you've been using the original successfully, then none of this makes any sense, I'm sure. I've had no trouble going back and forth between the versions. I turn the installed version off before installing the other, but I don't know that to be necessary.
It's also worth remembering that you need the latest verisons of mySkin/myKbd to be able to merge external skins.

The position is hardcoded and is not aware of screen rotation, HW-slider changes etc. Look here for the position on a T3:

I've found that the option to display the command bar with a tap and hold of the menu icon does not survive a soft reset if the Menu option only is checked. If the Home option is also selected, it seems to be fine after a soft reset. The correct behavior can be restored by turning the Menu option off and back on.

That's really a bummer CD! I know we use a lot of the same apps that control skins and statusbars & this version of ShowBatt works for me. What app are you opening the pop-up over? Perhaps you're using a different skin? I'm currently using Mac Black.
I shouldn't think the skin would matter. I'm currently using FerdFerd's red skin. I'm opening the popup over LauncherX.
Another thought... I remember I did go into ShowBatt in prefs to make sure the install worked and I switched off-> on first before I triedtit for the first time.
I didn't do this the first time, but I did the second and third time I tried installing.
Also - I installed from my card with R.Explorer if that might make any difference? although I don't think it should.
I installed with PInstall (simulates a hotsync, but only installs apps) and by using MyInstall (which would be the equivalent of using RE). I didn't uninstall first though - did you?

I just tried 1.04. I turned showbattery off, turned the home statusbar key in mykbd off and installed SB 1.04. I turned SB back on, turned home and menu on in SB (not sure what they do). SB worked fine, but all my macros stopped working, both Hard Key and macros assigned to a mykbd macro tap. What is more when I tried uninstalling batteryskin using uninstall manager, mykbd disappeared from my device. I've reverted to SB 1.00.
I've found some problems with the Home feature in 1.04; Home puts a home menu on the DIA and moves Find to the Menu button on tap and hold. The Menu option puts the cmdbar on the menu button on tap and hold.
The vanishing app behaviour you speak of has only happened to me when my NVRAM has become corrupted; you might want to try a hard reset and restore at this point.

I wouldn't use home that way since I usemykbd and don't normally see anything but the keyboard. The find sounds okay, so does the menu option.

Well, we speak about the very left icon in the statusbar, it's Find in the plain TX but most people I guess, use a Home-Patch to have the home button here too. Means it is visible also when having the keyboard.

Oh! I used to use homewithfind to patch that, but I now use mykbd to do it slightly better. It sounded like _Em was talking about the home in the DIA area not the statusbar. At any rate when I enabled v1.04 and enabled the home, I didn't get the home icon in the status bar.

My one surprise is that a tap and hold on home now goes to applications instead of the mykbd mcphling behavior. That's what this version is supposed to do. It's actually going to ApplicationsDA. You loose the favorites and recently used list if you select Home in v1.06 of ShowBattery. That's why I've been wanting to select Menu alone. It 's worth noting, though, that a hold on H1 still brings up the McPhling-like menu, even if the tap-and-hold on the home button on the status bar no longer does.

I haven't tried 1.07 yet, but here are my results with previous versions.
Device: TX
Macro Keys: all, including macro keys in mykbd keyboard
Before reset everything works fine, after reset nothing works whether I disable or enable SB. This includes the popup when I tap and hold home in the statusbar.
It just occured to me do I have to readd SB to my UC list even though it's already there. Has the creator ID changed (this happened to me with backoff! - even though the filename was the same the creator id changed so it wouldn't work correctly until I deleted it and readded it to the UC list)??????

Hello,
As I see that Metaview and Pruss (thank them for all their software!) can use the status bar to launch applis, why not use swiping instead of hold, and even better swipe to launch any application of the user's choice ? Maybe I am asking too much ?
I have been searching something like SharkSwipe (http://www.ludustech.com/sharkswipe/) (this one is not stable on the TX, otherwise I would have bought it for the requested $8) for months, one can launch more applis (36) than one can remember. Swipe is faster than hold, is it harder to implement ?

I've noticed recently that the bottom application in the favorites list (via mySkin) is Find.
iīve never connected this to using myskin/mykbd, because this is what mobilestreamīs "HomeWithFind" patch does, which i have been using since the beginning of my TX (the version without the hardconnected weblink). itīs not mentioned in the myskin/mykbdīs docs, also.
isnīt this the very first patch that everybody installs after finding out that the original TX is missing the very useful "Home" button? i thought so, thatīs why it tends to be forgotten :)

I made a 1.07 ...
wow, it is hard to keep up with those new versions that keep spilling out of this thread... any chance you put a regular downlaod link on your website?
with 1.06, i have the following behaviour:
1. "Menu" enabled:
- tap-and-hold an "menu" gives command bar, ok
- long tap-and-hold gives nothing
2. "Home" enabled:
- tap-and-hold gives nothing, which is funny because it should: either showbattīs behaviour or HomeWithFindīs behaviour, but showbatt seems to disable HomeWithFind without installing itīs own functionality.
i have "HomeWithFind" (like 90% of all TX users i guess) installed and myKbd, the latter with macros, but none of them dealing with those buttons.
letīs try 1.07...

* Long on Menu (3 secs) should bring the Find dialog
* Long on Home (1 secs) should bring the build-in application launcher but sub-launched. You need Accessorizer for this or nothing will happen.
I will add the regular download link on the start page.

hmmm... so you actually need accessorizer to make showbattery work? or is it just for the behavior above mentioned?

Only to enable the sub-launch feature in Henk's enhanced version of Showbattery. Otherwise, no you don't need Accessorizer.
Also, I played around with the macros last night and finally got the second one I was attempting to work (user error, not related to this version of Showbattery) and I'm not having any conflicts with this app and my macros. Sorry cyberdude. I hope this gets worked out for you real soon.

Thanks for trying. I'm a litttle bummed that I can't get any of the latest versions to work, but I'm dealing ...
Edit: I just retried 1.03 and had the same problems. back to 1.00 ...

Interesting... You are correct I don't find any of the prefs panel apps available for addition to my unCache list. However, ShowBattery is in my unCache list - must be left over from a long time ago.
Also regarding the "Find" in the Recents/Favorites list - I don't get "Find" in my list even after using it to search for something. Wonder why you guys are seeing it in the list? I'm using myKbd v1.43 and ShowBattery v1.03. Do you by chance still have HomeWithFind installed? IIRC even if you install and activate mySkin/myKbd's home button feature - HomeWithFind will override it. I had to completely delete HWF before myKbd's feature would work (and I remember needing to change attributes in Filez to be able to delete it)- but I could be way off base, this was a very long time ago :o
@Cyberdude - I'm sorry that this is still not working for you :( I can't figure out why it's not... All of my macros still work. Do you install the new version of ShowBattery then turn it off->on then reset? Or are you resetting immediately? I turn it off/on first and then only reset way later between backups. Why are you needing to reset right away? or are you using reset to activate the new version?

Mine is also probably from a while ago. I need to vlean out my list - it is way too long.

I originally had HWF installed before myKbd, but I too found I had to delete it by setting the recyclable bit and resetting in order for the mykbd function to work.

I turn showbattery off, install the new version, turn SB back on and everything works fine (this also works if I don't initially turn off SB, but then turn it off/on a couple of times). I perform a reset at this point to test if it survives a reset and it is at this point my HK and macros and home popup stop working. Turning SB off or deleting it and resetting does no good. To get functionality back I have to do a complete restore from backup. :(

Ahhh Cyberdude, I was incorrect. It turns out that I AM having the same problem as you with SOME macros not working with Henk's enhanced version of Showbattery.
For the "simple things" such as setting a macro for command bar(yea, it's not neccessary but it works), to hotsync or a date stamp. But when I try to set a macro for an app such as 2PlayMe or D2G, it won't work.
I was just beating my head against a wall last night and this morning over on BH about it when it just dawned on me what the problem might be. So I reverted back to Pruss' 1.02 and voila it began working. I'm going to go do a little trial and error work with each version Henk has released and see if any of them will allow me to set a macro to launch an app. I was working under 1.06 prior to reverting back to Pruss' 1.02 so I've got a few trials to undergo...but I'll report back.
See...you're not alone, doesn't that feel better? Misery always loves company! :p But I'm bummed b/c I really liked that sublauncher feature. Just when I figured out how to use it sufficiently I can't...or maybe I can, gotta run these trials.
I'll be back in a bit! :)

How about an exchange of app lists?

Also regarding the "Find" in the Recents/Favorites list - I don't get "Find" in my list even after using it to search for something.I don't get it anymore either. I had no clear idea why, but I reinstalled ShowBattery 1.02, Alex Pruss's latest version, and after that the Find at the bottom of the mySkin recently used list disappeared.
I think I have tracked down the cause though. Remember that MetaView's modifications of ShowBattery take over the functions provided by mySkin/myKbd. Without his modified version, if you go the the preferences menu in mySkin and uncheck the option to "Search by holding menu," but leave checked the option to place a "Home icon in TX status bar," the Find function appears at the bottom of the list that comes up when you tap-and-hold the home icon. Recheck the box to search from the menu button, and Find disappears from the recently used applications list.
I had never noticed this before, but it means that you do have access to the Find function, even if you don't use the option to do it through the Menu icon. That, in principle, would release the tap-and-hold function on the menu button for another use. In MetaView's case, it's to bring up the Command Bar.
I haven't been very much interested myself in using MetaView's reassignment of the Home icon to bring up ApplicationsDA. I prefer to have the recently used/favorites list. In my case, the hold-for-a-long-time feature for the Menu button in MetaView's modifications of ShowBattery is redundant, since Find is available at the bottom of the recently used applications list.
Sorry to go on like that. Hope I'm clear and that the information is useful to someone.
Edit: I just put v1.07 back and found that whether the Find application appears at the bottom of the recently used applications list has nothing to do with the ShowBattery options. It's all controlled by whether search from the menu is enabled in mySkin.
Edit 2: It does pay to reread instructions once in a while. There was no mystery to be solved at all. From Alex Pruss's own documentation, "You can choose whether you want the search function to work by holding down the statusbar menu button. If not, you will get a search option in the popup list of last applications instead."

I don't know what use this is, but I can run ShowBattery 1.07 and my hard key macros in mySkin all work perfectly normally. One activates a normal application (H4 = Calculator). The others involve press and holds to activate Accessorizer DAs. H2 = CalendarDA, H3 = ContactsDA, and H4 = CalcDA.

IIRC even if you install and activate mySkin/myKbd's home button feature - HomeWithFind will override it. I had to completely delete HWF before myKbd's feature would work
i kept on using HWF because whenever i turned on mykbdīs function, it wouldnīt let me skin the home button !?
(i did not investigate this further, i am, just like FerdFerd, only interested in the functionality of HWF, i.e. having a recent-app list and a find command, so it really didnīt matter to me if this was provided by HWF or mykbd).
@FerdFerd: i second that. no loss of macros here. maybe itīs an uncache issue?
