The TV remote software on my T665 and Nr70v never beeped like this, everytime I click a hardkey button to adjust volume or change channels, I hear this annoying beep. i can't seem to turn it off, even under preferences -> general -> system sounds OFF.

still makes this annoying beep, its driving me nuts!!

mute the clie and that should solve that problem. That noise is annoying as sin. Ctrl-A gets you to the audio menu and you can just tap mute. That is what I always did.

Ctrl + A!!!

wow amazing. I also figured out in preferences, if you turn alarm sounds to OFF, this turns off that horrible remote control beep. Kinda strange that it is associated as an "alarm" instead of "system" sounds, but who knows?

Thanks for the tips guys. I kind of think that they may have put that sound there to prevent people from using it for secretly screwing with other people's devices (like the TV or VCR in a lecture or other public place, etc). It's sort of the same reason that cell phones with cameras in them are set to make a noticable sound when you take a picture.

icruise,

Good point, i never thought of that in this way. Now i really think that is the reason why there is a shutter sound on those cell phones.

My thought is that because there isn't any tactile feedback (not to be confused with force feedback) like on real remotes where you can feel the button, that annoying beep is an that you're actually depressing the button.

How many of us for probably 75%+ don't look at the remote when we're using it because of tactile feedback?

I'd love to be able to customize the remote beep to something else though...like a doot instead of a beep. :)

I think the response of the TV or DVD player is enough indication that you are actually pushing a button, although I agree that the lack of tactile feedback is a problem -- you can't use it without looking.

I'm currently trying to get mine to sound like the Horn of Helm's Deep off LOTR2 when I press a button. Seriously, I know the old OS4 would allow you to turn off the beep if it bothers ya. Also, you could just smother it in a pillow!

I am also getting the "Define file was changed" in my NX70... I already had deleted an earlier version I had upon doing the first HotSync with BackupBuddy. It syopped appearing for a while, now everytime I enter CLie RMC it appears... ideas?

I just leave my whole NX muted most of the time. Takes care of the camera shutter sound and remote beeping. Thankfully, I have my NX out in my hands enough to notice an alarm without having to hear it.
