I got today new packed 4gb sandisk memory card. Problem is that you never know if it is fake (at least I'm bit of scared of this). So I have read this Ebay's guide...

http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/FAKE-Sony-Memory-Stick-Pro-Duo-MagicGate-Cards-Exposed_W0QQugidZ10000000001535763

...many times but there isn't any information how to separate real SANDISK memory cards from fakes, only SONY cards. Actually I haven't found any guide about fake sandisk memory cards so are there even fake sandisk cards??

IIRC, the only fake SanDisk cards were the 2GB ones and you could tell the difference, but I don't remember how, although there was a site that had the two side by side and they looked slightly different. I do remember that when you put the fake ones into your device and started cardinfo, the card did not identify itself as a SanDisk card.

Quite relief to know that about 2gb sandisk cards.

I was here thinking to register my memory stick at Sandisk.com and if they notice something odd on the serial number then it is fake. Sounds good idea? At least for me but I don't where the serial number is. Could someone tell me that?

For now I have tryed to explore the card quite carefull without opening the pack (because if I open I can't get my money back). Though I haven't found any critical difference as I'm not any expert. Except! The text on front side of the card is quite odd looking (not so sharp as on my genuine 1gb sony memory stick) However Sandisk MIGHT uses different way to make these cards so maybe the text should be little unclear or not so clear...

I'm maybe just opening the pack soon. Maybe this is waste of time...

The only way I know of finding the serial number is by popping the card in and using card info. If it's a fake - you can't register it for some reason - bring it back to the store and complain. Tell them you'll contact the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's Office if they don't give you satisfaction.

One website that I googled:
http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/Fake_Memory_Cards
And they have a link to actual pictures of SanDisk and sony memory cards...

Thanks for googling! I will check it out....

PS. For now I have open the packace and the card fits without almost any push to psp so it seems real in that point of view. I did also format it on the psp as it is recommend.

Ooo.. I can't get it. Where to find the serial info? I tryed plug the card to th55 using adapter but it asks for format. Also, I tryed see is there serial number when my 1gb ms is in the th55 but no serial number so why there would be my 4gb ms serial number? Another also, I did connect psp to computer and my computer did very well regonize it but I didn't found any serial number through computer... So any other advices?

Your problem may be that it's a SDHC card not a SD card. From what I can see at SanDisk's site the only 4gb card they have there is a SDHC card. In which case I don't believe your device can read it.

Well what I know Th55 could read my ms even it is SDHC but I should install some kind of driver and edit some kind of number using files. BUT I don't really want bother that much. It is enough that it works on psp.

But must the serial number be somewhere?? Could it be the number back of the card? Or maybe back of packace? There are lot of numbers..
