I just got my CLIE back from Sony (I'd dropped it and broke the screen). I'm trying to sync, and keep getting a fatal exception error (no other message). When I first got it, it was "Syncronizing Power". I went to the backup file on the desktop and deleted the Power.prc file. Well, now I get to Cleaning up - Please wait when I get the Fatal Error. I cannot do a soft reset, I must do a hard reset or I keep getting that error. I'm going to try to delete all my hacks (all 4 of them) from the backup file.

Has anyone run into this before, or have any other suggestions. I'm not looking forward to calling Sony again...

I had something like that before, where I don't know which app has caused the Fatal Error, and fixed it by reinstalling the Palm Desktop for CLIE, moving all of the content of Backup file (C:\Program Files\Sony Handheld\your username\Backup) to My Documents (or any data folders other than the Sony Handheld just for a temporary storage space), reinstalling all of the Add-on apps, one at a time and HotSyncing after installing each app, until I found the corrupted app.

That was painful but it worked. Since then, I routinely (once a week or before installing new app) backup my RAM to MS with MSBackup so I can restore the mirror image of everything after a hard reset within a minute and any where (not relying to HotSync with PC). Restoring your Clie with HotSync tends to lose the preferences, that means you need to reintall some of the 3rd party app registration codes, which is a pain.

That is what I am in the process of doing, except I must moved all the .prc files to another file. I'm narrowing in on the errant program, and will be quite ammused if it ends up being my menstrual traking program. LOL

Yes, it was my third party app that tracks my menstrual cycle. It must have had PMS. LOL. I had to reenter all the serial numbers, and will have to redo all my Datebk5 stuff, but at least I was able to fix it all. As soon as I get paid next week I'm buying a third party backup program. I've heard good things about Backup Buddy. Any comments or suggestions?

:D  That is too funny.

Yap, I use BackupBuddy VFS (BB) too. Basically, I use both MSBackup and BB. The MSBackup for the weekly manual backup of the whole RAM and BB for automatic daily backup (mine sets at midnight) of my DBs that change daily like DateBook, Address, Memopad, ToDo, etc. I had problem with BB to backup the whole RAM. It conflicts with QuickSheet data. MSBackup conflicts with WorldMate data. You don't know that until you try to restore your RAM from MS. Therefore, both backups complement each other so to speak. One other thing I like about BB is that it has encryption. I haven't heard any other backup apps that have that capability.
