View Full Version : Gadget Inventory
I was just wondering what other people tend to carry with them, gadget-wise. I have 2 categories, 1. things you carry in your pocket, 2. things you carry in your gadget bag.
here's mine:
1. Treo 680, sometimes ipod nano.
-Treo rocks, what can i say. iPod nano, because i don't want to drain the batt on the treo listenin' to my tunes.
2. powerbook 12', small notepad, western digital portable hdd, 4-port usb, and short cat5 cable.
-pb 12', it's compact and i dig os x, small notepad because sometimes you just want to write things down, wd portable hdd because i like to back things up.
Edit: just thought of another category... for those that have cars...
3. Gadgets in the Car! (like gps n' stuff)
For me... fm transmitter from iRiver, it works for me.
So... what about everyone else?

Bookbag - PowerBook G4 15", Palm UWK, mini-speaker
My TX is my media device because its battery can take it. Amazing its only 12
50mAh but yet I get a whole day and some out of it unless I am blasting music from speaker. Mind you I got my TX last March.

Cool posts! Wow, lots of Mac people. I guess i shouldn't be so surprised, hehe.
I just thought of another thing, what kind of bag do you guys use to carry your gadgets? I'm talking specifically about laptop bags, but hey if you even use a 'pda holster' that would be interesting to hear about.
For me, for the longest time i'd use this targus messenger type bag, but it was really made for 15'-17' laptops, so just recently i picked up a pakuma choroka k2 bag, which feels like a perfect fit for my gear.

Good grief, I don't want to start listing as it'll take a page...haha For starters, my sig lists my PDA collection (sold ones are in parentheses), I use Jabra BT8010s with my TX (for audio) and my Treo 680 (for calls). My laptop is a Mac and Linux-esque inspired Windows XP Pro-powere Compaq Presario R3240CA, and I've got so much other crap I don't even want to start listing, as I'll soon start weeping over how much money all that was...hahah

As for the Gadget Bag
I use a Targus Laptop Backback - http://tinyurl.com/3duoke
And my trusty Franklin Covey eBelt Case which I originally purchased for my Palm Vx but has also fit the M500, M505 and TX just fine. I've had to use super glue and replace the velcro but it still is going strong. - http://tinyurl.com/3dyzod
When I don't want my Palm at my hip it travels in the Body Glove Zipper Case that I also purchased at the time of the Vx. - http://tinyurl.com/3xx68n
And we all fit inside one of these - http://tinyurl.com/334mfp

1. When out there for just a few minutes and no client in sight: iPod nano 1Gb + Panasonic G51M phone.
2. When meeting clients or friends or family: all of the above + Tungsten T3
3. When giving a portfolio showcase: all of the above + mac mini + roll keyboard + mighty mouse, and if there's no projector available or it is not for sure I also carry my 19" acer al1951b lcd monitor.
Also, I always carry a Rolodex REX-3 in my car. It's got a backup of all my contact and agenda info from my Tungsten T3.
Nothing special to carry all my stuff, tho.
Pocket: (depending on where I'm going)
Palm Tx in a metal case
Nokia E50
iPod Nano 4GB with Sony headphones
DaKine backpack with lots of gadget pockets:
Toshiba 15.4" laptop (only on longer trips, the Tx is usually enough)
Canon Powershot A70
Garmin GPS 76 + Palm/car connector cable
Palm universal wireless keyboard
TI-84 Plus pocket calculator
512MB USB drive
Mini MagLite, for when a screen backlight just doesn't cut it... :D
Pen
Still would like to get one of them FM transmitters for the iPod, should be nice in the car.

Palm TX
- Vaja case
- 2gb card
- Palm UWK
- Phillips earbuds (cheapos, but they work well)
- USB cable
Razr V3c
- Moto H700 BT
- charger (just in case)
iBook G4 12"
- 1gb jump drive
- power cord
I carry all of this in a very cool Kensington multi-gadget backpack that my boss purchased when I started complaining about all the crap I carry everyday. I was about to buy one and she ordered this one and had it in my chair a week later! Yayy me! Not the one I would've chosen, but hey...it was free and it serves the purpose well.
However, I have been looking for a "case" of some sort to carry my UWK in or maybe something to put both my TX and it in. I loove the look of the Vaja leather bags but my keyboard won't fit...at least it doesn't look like it will, based on the measurements. Anyone have any suggestions?

Where are you? Here in Mexico both the TX and the LifeDrive are EOL products, which means you get excellent rebates as time goes by!!

I'm in good ol New Zealand which is even below Australia for those who dont know! Sadly being down here means that not only do we get technology late (but we get public ms operating systems first in the world but yeah) yet New Zealanders love technology and cant seem to get enough of it.
As i wanted to get it cheap as possible I got it from the people who import Palm products into NZ as it had largely sold out where I live (Auckland NZ's largest city) and it cost me 500 New Zealand dollars = 341.8 U.S. dollars (using google money converter) due to freight etc and it has arrived into the country yesterday and I'll hopefully be getting it today or tommorrow a week earlier than expected. And if your wondering why get a TX now as its the last true Palm PDA IMO and I like to keep my phone a pda separate and its harder to use a treo at uni esp as I'm looking to use it as a laptop replacement with the UWK.
Wow! You do carry stuff guys! I dont feel so alone in the world now looking at people like me ;)
Since I do computer support on site, when I'm working I use to carry lots of stuff, but lets talk about getting out to galleria and then cinema...
In my "Outside" brand 18 liters fanny pack, that doubles as shoulder bag, I use to carry:
# Palm TX, just for anything that computes...
# SE T616
# Victorinox Recruit
# Red Photon light II

I know where NZ is and I would love to go there... mind to trade places for a while?
I'm not wondering about your decision to remain on a PDA versus jumping to the 'Smartphone' band-wagon. I'm myself just like that. I've been close to buying a Treo ever since the 600 came on the scene but everytime I got one near, it fails to meet my expectations: tiny screen, no wifi, slow processor, short on memory and a battery life that will be shrunk by having two devices on one.
Connected everywhere? With the steep data-transfer rates on this little piece of a country that I happen to suffer in -sorry, meant to live-, I prefer to remain in the isolated age. All the more so when most stuff coming to my mail accounts can be serviced by a traditional call or needs my potent PC to act on their contents!!

Well... on my geek-belt I have two holstered cell-phones (one personal, one work); a Leatherman Charge xTi in it's holster; a combo holster with a Husky dual-blade utility knife (the new leatherman wouldn't fit), a ball-point, a sharpie, a 3.0x50 jeweler's screwdriver, and a mini-mag with LED mod; and my T|X in a $1 camera bag.
Yes, I wear all that on a daily basis. I also have at least one 512MB thumbdrive in my pocket.
I have a personal laptop and a work laptop... I carry both when I am out of town. Not a whole lot of extra gadgets to go with them except a PCMCIA network adapter and a PCMCIA wireless.

I wouldnt mind swapping places for a while :P
Yeah I remember when my dad had a trial treo 600 (as he was looking at getting a 650 but they loaned him the 600 no quite idea why) and even though the 600 and 650 are very different devices the feel between them isnt too much different I think *yes they look different but the core of it is the same IMO*) and I just cringed at its weight and how fast the battery was chewed though so yeah my new TX is right as home with me!
