Are any ZLauncher users using LA? Do you think that LA is really worth it for $10? I'm using McPhling for a "launch anywhere" tool, but it's limited to only 14 apps, so I am considering an upgrade.'
I saw that one TH55 user said that it really slowed down his machine. Any other TH55 users seen this problem? I am thinking about loading it on a '55.

Works fine on my TH55.

What do you think of it, bh77a? Worthwhile, or not?

Yes, for the discounted price I think it is worthwhile.
So far I really like it. I love the feature of it that mimics the ZLauncher categories (can also browse the built in launcher categories if you don't use ZL), so I can just browse them via LaunchAnywhere. Place it along with the plugin support (it is handy for me to see a calendar without having to leave my current app) and it is a very worth while solution for me.
When I first installed it, I had also installed SkinUI 2 and noticed the UI redrawing coming to a dramatic slow down. I had thought it was LA since I read it somewhere, but after disabling SUI 2, the problem went away.
All in all, I am very pleased. I have been in contact with ZZTechs hoping to get them to integrate some additional features. Theme management made it into this version so I am confident they are listening.
I am hoping they add:
- inclusion of card apps in mimiced categories
- inclusion of tabs that are document specific, ie SmartListToGo or doc in mimiced categories
- a shortcut item to bring up the backlight dialog (one is available to bring up the contrast and turn off the backlight)
- when assigning LA to the home icon of the status bar, tapping it and then tapping the home icon while in LA just brings up the menu again... it should take you home
Anyways, sorry for rambling... yes, I think you will enjoy it. You can always run a before and after test of its system effects using Igor Nestorov's PalmInternals.

I don't think you want to use Launch Anywhere "on top of" ZL . . . that would be slow. So the question I had to ask after evaluating LA was, "Can I be happy with Palm Launcher (as in plain ol') and LA? The answer was "no." I still love the various skins of ZL that I switch around between.
A combination I've toyed with in my head but have not tried yet is to run Treo Launcher (http://palmgadget.com/lnchr.html) and Launch Anywhere. Treo Launcher has an incredibly small footprint and with LA just might be a winning combo. Of course you would need to have a Treo (I think?) to utilize it. ;)

Did ZZTechs fix the TH55 jogdial left/right buttons issue that was reported in earlier threads? Can you perform long presses on the jogdial left/right buttons, capture, or back buttons? I am looking for true one-hand support to launch various apps. I use a long press of the right button to launch McPhling, and a long press of the left button to go to the previous app. Can LA do that?

@ wellsjs,
LA and ZLauncher are not slow when used in conjunction on either my TH55 or TX.
@ lanman,
I will experiment with your questions over the weekend and get back to you.

Thanks, bh77a. Any results on the left/right jogdial issues? How about long-press launch? Does LA support that?

Had a little time to experiment, and yes LA does support long press launching. So far, the left/right don't work to navigate into the submenus, but I am going to see if I can remap the left/right with Sharkbutton to emulate left/right of my TX.
There doesn't seem to be an option to launch previous app with button press yet, as there is in McPhling and HiLauncher.

@ wellsjs,
LA and ZLauncher are not slow when used in conjunction on either my TH55 or TX.Could be it's just Treos (due to radio application). In any case, I cannot see adding LA to ZL when it is just a glorified QL, which works just fine for me.
If I was hurting for RAM (only reason I'd give up ZL), then I'd think about going with Treo Launcher and LA. ;)

I'm not too keen on the methods that they use to launch QL. No long press option. I can't devote one of my buttons to that soul process. I'd go ahead and dump McPhling in favor of QL if ZZTechs had just included that small feature. Why they didn't included an long-press option for QL I'll never know.

I hope that they too are not abandoning support for the Clie's like a number of other developers are. :(

Just thought I would throw in a thought here. I am using Zlauncher and Launch-Anywhere together on my TX. I agree that full price may be a bit steep. It does not have all the same features as ZL yet costs about as much.
However, I do like using LA. It is very configurable and the long press launch is great. I have Switch5 and LA mapped to the same button. If I want to jump quickly to the previous app, I use Switch5 (short press, press). A long press on the same button brings up LA. I rarely leave my 'home' screen to go anywhere in my Palm anymore. It works well with the 5way for me too.

I guess that with LA ZZT has no incentive to fix ZL's QL by adding a long press feature. Kinda makes me mad that I would have to pay for LA's feature bloat for something that should have been in ZL in the first place.

Well, to be honest, I prefer Quicklaunch over Launch Anywhere. Have you guys run a PalmInternals Speed Test with Launch Anywhere? It brings my Treo down to a CRAWL. Also, the clipboard is not accessible to any Desk Accessory from Launch Anywhere. TealEdit and LClipDA are useless.
With QuickLaunch, I set it to use the right shift-key and disable the "enhanced recognition." I almost never use the right shift-key for typing, and so far Quicklaunch has ALWAYS worked from that key. Speed hit according to PalmInternals: NONE.
Launch Anywhere looks enticing, but it's not ready for me, yet.
Am I right in assuming that I will need to recreate my menus etc when I install 1.1. The version history is a bit confusing on that point..
thanx

no, ur menus are saved... even if this happens, u could also copy ur menu db to your card with filez or resco explorer, and then copy it back again :)
but dont worry, in worst case i gess u could also recover the db within the last backup... but ulll see there is no need.
