I enjoyed reading the posts for a thread in the NX Forum: NX OWNER'S Age Bracket.  The responses made me wonder: where do we get the money to by these expensive gadgets?

If it weren't for an expense account at work, I'd still be stuck with a Palm IIIxe!  :)

Current device: NX60

My employer offered to buy it, the best with all the options. But as I use it more for home than work (about 60/40), I considered it my responsibility so I only saved up my overtime money.

originally I recieved a visor prism two years ago as a gift but the battery wore out a year later and I had a BB service plan so they let me upgrade to a NR70 and pay the difference. Now the ms slot is sticking a great deal and BB last week agreed to replace it. Waiting for the new clie due out soon...

My parents got me my first Clie for Christmas. Though it seems like only yesterday that I got it.

Seeing that I am 13, and don't work, my parents obviously bought me my PDAs (most recently the NZ90). Actually my first PDA was a Palm III, which was given to my dad at work, but he doesn't like such "complicated machines." Then his work gave him a Palm Vx which also ended-up in my hands, but everything else was I guess a gift from my parents.

My SJ30 was a gift from my brother. If he hadn't had bought it, I probably would have either bought a Clie myself sooner or later to replace my Visor Prism.

YOU LUCKY BUM!!!! I'm 15, I don't work except for cutting my neighbor's lawn, and I bought all of my PDAs myself with the exception of my first visor deluxe, which was a christmas present. And it was the only christmas present I got that year. After that, I've gotten all my upgrades from buying broken PDAs and fixing them, then selling the parts. I'm at an NR70 now, and I've only paid a total of about $20 for the upgrade from visor>IIIc>NR70. I'm probably gonna get an NX soon.

P.S. How did you convince your parents to buy you an NZ90? I might be able to use some advice.

Well little-man, I don't exactly have to convince my parents because my dad works for the Air Force at the Pentagon and the government pays for most of everything we buy.

My NZ90 was bought by me, myself, and I!

I accidentally bought mine while browsing for office supplies. Next thing you know, I have a brand new Clié...

An old office provided my first Palm V several years ago. I returned that to them several months later and bought my own (i.e., my cash) Palm Vx when 2 MB RAM became a critical limit and I found my self using it more for personal stuff. I've since sold each PDA to buy the next with my own, hard-earned cash. Currently have a T665C, which I'll probably keep for quite a while.

Bought my own as always. I keep a rolling $500-600 for just that purpose: buying whatever pda or smartphone that comes out that captures my attention. I currently have a TG50 and Palm T/C (it's going back) and I'm patiently awaiting Sony's new line up.

I hate to be the one to tell you, but that's illegal and your dad could get in serious trouble for that. It's called misuse of government property. Perhaps you should reconsider that approach before his career comes to a screeching halt.

I have a TG50 that I got through a combination of birthday money, my own money and the money from the sale of my Treo 90....wee....

Actually Tanker-Bob, they have told him that they will pay for most of our expenses, even for personal use.

It was one of those things where I was thinking "hmm, I need a new staple... wait, what's this ? ..."

and the rest is history.

That depends. If the government is paying for all of it, then yes it is misuse. But if they are subsidizing it, then it's fine. You can get a lot of things for a lot cheaper than normal if you're in the military.

If possible, for all the generous donors out there, can I start a thread and say "Who will buy me my next CLIE"?

We're not stealing, they have given us permission to buy these things.
