Can anyone advise of the differences between these two readers. I am a registered user of mobipocket pro and thoroughly enjoy using it. However, I have always been curious about Palm Reader Pro. Never used it because it doesn't have a trial period.

There is a free version of PalmReader that is identical to PalmReader Pro, the only difference is support for fonts and color schemes (free version doesn't use them).

I prefer PalmReader Pro over any reader I've tried . . . Mobi has stayed 30 minutes or less on my PDA every time I've tried it (usually when new updates are released. I try to like it. I really do!)

E-book readers are like datebook replacements and launchers. If what you have works for you, there's really no reason to change.

Does Palm Reader support eBooks on memory stick? What file should one use?

Palm Reader Pro has a big advantage with its library of books. If you are looking for books to buy Palm Reader has the best library of books. Probably 10 times more books to buy compared to Mobipocket Pro.

YellowRose,

I purchased a Palm ebook and read it on the free version of Palm Reader. I was a little disappointed because the ebook didn't have the cover image of the book like it was displayed on the web. Would I have seen the cover image had I been using Palm Reader Pro?

Essentially, I'm wondering whether the lack of color features in the free version of Palm Reader means that users cannot view (at all) the images that may be in an ebook, including its cover image.

Thanks,

Palm Reader formatted books don't offer cover art - or at least not on the 40+ books I've gotten from there over the past several years. However, you can view images that are within the book itself. I believe the free reader supports the images, but you'd have to check the web site to confirm this.

Thanks,

Cover image is up to the publisher. Some put the cover image and some don't. Its not the reader thats the problem. I've noticed most publishers don't put the cover image, but pictures in the book are almost always there.

Does Palm reader not allow you to read the news like mobipocket? With mobipocket and can subscribe to CNN, Fox, BBC etc. for all the news and for free. I don't think you can with palm?

Palm is just for books. It doesn't have the news option.

Thanks, As captainao stated, while it IS technically possible, I've NEVER seen cover art, or any other kind of art in the books I've purchased. I'm not sure if any offer it . . . I do know that the Palm E-book creator has that ability ~ but I've never even been able to figure it out. . .

It might be worth a quick email to Palmreader support (www.palmdigitalmedia.com) . . . it's certainly not a 'complicated' question. Maybe even ask them which books have pictures . . .

Regarding the news reading . . . have you seen/heard of Avantgo (www.avantgo.com)? It's newest version (for OS5) is BEAUTIFUL.

You can check out the most recent beta HERE (http://avantgo.com/support/beta_news.html)

Rosetta Books always puts the cover art. Other than that you won't see it very often. Palm Digital has no control over it. Its the publisher that decides it.

I've bought 100 ebooks from Palm Digital and other than the Rosetta published ones only a Star Wars book, Mike Nelson's Mind Over Matters, and Seinfelds Halloween book had cover art from the ones I bought. Many had pictures inside though. Almost History is full of photos and stuff like the Voyage of Shannara books had maps and chapter art.

edit: Just bought New York Dead by Stuart Woods and it has cover art. Its a Harper Collins Perfectbound eBook. Checked my other Perfectbound published books and they all have cover art. So its likes like most if not all of Rosetta and Perfectbound eBooks will have the cover art.

Thank you all for the info! That clears things up.
