You can now stop fooling around with changing creator ids to delete in-use files.

http://www.1src.com/freeware/fileinfo.php?id=1649

This software and its sourcecode is released into
the public domain by Alexander R. Pruss.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
THERE IS NO WARRANTY.
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

ForceDelete is a control panel so you need to open
the Palm Prefs application to access it.

ForceDelete is used for deleting files in RAM (or
Program Memory) that cannot be normally deleted
because they are in use. It does this by scheduling
them to be deleted on reset and then by performing
that reset.

Use at your own risk. ForceDelete can be used to
delete important system files. This could cause a
hard reset or destroy your device.

What devices is the app compatible with?

Is there a possibility to have this delete individual saved/unsaved preferences as well?

It requires OS 4.0 and up.

No, I am not planning that.

No, this doesn't delete ROM files either. It's just a more convenient way of deleting in-use files than going to Filez, turning on the recyclable attribute, and doing a reset. Moreover, the fact that is a control panel means it might work in those circumstances where the system is too screwed up to show the launcher.

This would have been perfect yesterday when playing with Dmitry's latest little app:)
Got a reset loop that prevented me getting to explorer or any launcher!!
Thanks again Alex.

I love my mom

NICE! This will be very useful, I have gotten into countless reset loops with some of new apps.

Thank you Pruss. Another much needed app! I hate the FileZ dance and I hate explaining it even more. Posted on BH as usual (I hope that is OK).

FileZ is what I used to do that, but your app becomes indispensable in this case:
Moreover, the fact that is a control panel means it might work in those circumstances where the system is too screwed up to show the launcher.

I must thank you once again for this little wonder. :)

Thanks!
Just to clarify, when, in FileZ you toggle the Recycle bit, it does the exact same thing, right?

Yes, except then you need to manually reset.

There is one way to delete BluePill...you can hotsync with the unlocked palm (after presumably stealing it), and then do a hard reset, remove Bluepill and anything that looks like it from the backup, and then reinstall everything.

Backing up to the SD (eg with NVBackup by Pruss) actually backs up files that HotSync will not.
Ever did a HotSync/hard reset? You'll lose files. Using card backup software, you won't. And you can select which files to restore.

Many thanks! This program just saved me from a hard reset on Z22. (FileZ couldn't solve my problem so..)

The program installs fine on my CLIE TH55 and displays in the preferences app. However, upon trying to switch to another preference panel, ie date/time, nothing happens. The ForceDelete panel stays visible.

Tapping on the home icon or pressing a button will return me to a program or launcher though.

Is this normal behavior or just a possible CLIE bug?

Should be fixed in 1.00, available in 1src applications.

I'm too chicken to try this on my Tungsten E2. ;) I'll wait for someone else to guinea-pig their E2 and report what can be safely deleted.

What software do you want me to try to delete?

I dunno, something that's useless and automatically put into RAM after a hard reset. Can the quick tour be done away with?
